have been looking for another second hand car as a daily for myself
came across a NF II fairlane ghia sportsman 6 cyl now i know bugger all about them but i did a bit of googling and thought (from what i read) that there was either a ghia OR a sportsman the car is a 6 cylinder (dont want an 8 anyway) has cloth grey interior with a slight fleck has the ghia badges on the front doors inside has the badge on the boot and has a embelm on the hood its got the sportsman sticker on the back left rear also has the electric sunroof its done under 170 tho with all service history (which i havent seen yet) and had the extended warranty taken out on it when new(i believe) full electrics etc, car is on gas as well tidy looking car for a barge (lol) anything i should be wary of with them? heard the gearboxes might go in the high 100 thous? replacements cheap?? if all you fairlane lovers could help me out with some info on this models it would be much appreciated read today that the head gaskets can go around 100th and the timing chain might be a prob would be handy of someone could tell me what im looking for (under the hood especially) ive posted this in the Post Classic area but have had no replies thanks guys and girls ms

BTR 4 speed's come up for $50 to $150 around the place so if it is stuffed you can just replace it with one from a wrecker
Timing Chain not so much of an issue with a stocky Stock Head Gasket is basically made of paper so sooner or later it will go but mine didn't go until 300,000klms They are cheap cars and cheap to fix unless you go brand new parts Example New from a WorkShop - you can get cheaper but just an example Reco BTR fitted $1,500 Head Gasket Fitted $1,500 Should be in good condition if it has only done $170,000klms

Make sure you check the AC and HEATER work and it switches from cold to hot and vice versa, and also switches from windscreen to face to feet. Made the mistake of only checking the AC when i bought mine and turns out heater does not work, so now this is a dash out job to fix. Elec windows are a problem as the window chanels are rubber so motors work extra hard. And if it's on gas make sure it runs well on both petrol and LPG and that it has not backfired and cracked intake.
Other than all that they are a brilliant car for a daily cruiser, which is why i bought mine. |

well, not that anyone cares or anything (lol) as there doesnt seem to be anywhere to talk about the lanes apart from here but i went and looked at the NFseries 2 ghia sportsman
straight away the car had not been cleaned or detailed in many a year door rubbers were filty (despite it being parked under cover) interior was not very tidy as mentioned, im guessing the mcdonalds chips under the drivers mats and the wrappers and pie crumbs all down the front seats came with it other than that it was reasonable front poiler hand a piece of 100mh white tape over it so im guessing its been cracked under that gas had a few years left before it needs to be checked all electrics worked sunroof worked heaters and aircon worked (owner had spent 500 on complete new aircon he reckons) had service book and was service 3 thousand kms ago and was done on time for previous ones etc if you spent the day completely detailing and cleaning it id give him 3600 lol also had a set of advantis on it lowered and tow bar nice car needs a HUGE clean and detail thou would prob come up alright
