hey there guys
its a bit rainy up here at the moment and my POS ute is leaking water into the cab... the water is coming in through the black plastic grills where the wipers bolt on (scuttle panel?) it is dripping onto my feet when i am driving. i stuck my head under the dash and had a look while my mate put the hose on those plastic grills, and i could see the water coming from a plate that is spot welded on and holding all sorts of electrickery... there is a orange electrical connector on this plate if anyone knows what im talking about? anyways i took the wipers off and those grills off but didnt see anything out of the ordinary (no rust holes or debris cloggin things etc) where is the water supposed to drain to once it gets in there? where is the hole likely to be? thanks, mark. |

The water is supposed to drain out down near the door gap. If you take the black plastic off that is under your wipers have a really good look at the spot welds that hold the steering coloum bracket on, mine were cracked, so i put a bit of silicon till i can get to the repair shop.

yeh mate i got the same problem, and i dont have any cracks where the clutch cable goes through, i think it is cracked spot welds right in the corner of where the wipper stuff is. If u take the plastic stuff off on the drivers side where the wipper is u can shine a tourch in there and see them. The water goes through there and drops on the brake and clutch cable, i think this is a common problem

I gave it a good clean and then used urethane and covered the row of welds closest to the drivers side guard, job done, no more leaks!!. Looked like a dodgy weld, a complete hole right through, have a good look around there at the welds, and also, make sure all the drain points are clear of debris. Very easy job, remove the wiper motor/arm assembly, and get in there with a torch and suss out the welds, much easier than ripping the dash out. |

mind my lack of mechanics but i couldnt find the spot welds but had some black silicone on the bottom of where the wipers sat. I used food dye and thought i was getting no where until i found a little tricklecoming down the right side of the footwell i traced this to the top right side under the dash to a smallish hole and filled with sickaflex. Retested it with a different colour food dye and none came through. So now i have to wait till it rains again........... BTW i had windscreens obrien look at it this morning and the told me straight out it wasnt the windscreen.
