hey all,
once the rocker cover is off, what is involved in changin the lifters.. what exactly needs to be done.. i thought it was a matter of undoing all the bolts on the pedestals and just changing them, but ive heard the power steering pump and something about a tensioner..? thanks.. santo

just rip off the rocker cover, undo the bolts and put the new stuff in. Don't have to do anything with the power steer or the tensioner. Just make sure it's seated properly over the guides or when you start your car, valve's will hit pistons and that ain't fun. Turn it over by hand first with a breaker bar on the crankshaft pully to check if anythings gonna hit.

hmmm.. just after closer inspection... a pedestal has some pretty bad wear from where the rocker rubs up against it.. this particular rocker doesnt line up to the top of the valve spring spot on like the others.. is this something to worry about?
cheers,

Yes, definetly worry about it! it must be the early type EA rockers, they didnt have the shim, or the slot in the pedastall for the shim. these always wear out. there is 2 ways to fix it, pull it apart and get them machined flat then use copper shims to make up for lost material, or get another set of rocker gear. the second option is easier and means you could upgrade to the ED type which have the 11 mm lifters and the Shims which are less likely to wear out. |

Hey if you want new rocker gear I have a full set of EF stuff and a full set of EA stuff, the lifters in both are buggered though so you'll need new ones.

I think the ones for EA-EB are 14mm and the ones for ED-EF are 11mm... Or is it the other way around? LOL

Other way round... EA lifters are massive compared to EF ones.
Where did you buy them from? Can't you return them? You can use any rocker gear, EA-EL, they all bolt straight up. I would avoid using series 1 ea, as that doesn't have the intermediate thrust washer between the pedestals. I got a complete set of EF rocker gear including lifters for next to nothing from JR's... cleaned a couple of the lifters, bolted it on. Easy as, and it's mega quiet too. the wade cams usually require double standard shims. i think there 1.8 mm thick for the ED-AU type shim these only come in one thickness. the EA-EB have 3 different sizes so no idea what you will need there.

I was told today that I just needed another set of standard shims from ford to shim up the cam. This was the 1604-113 grind.
