As per title what is the best sounding road car (not racing) you've ever heard?
Obviously can be a Ford but doesn't need to be. Mine is a V10 Lamborghini Gallardo - was in Port Melbourne and sounded like a F1 car was somewhere around until it then turned into. our street. Was extremely loud as (apparently) my mate knows the car and had a "Tubi" exhaust. Close second my R36 Passat (jokes ) |

I'm big on the XR5 Focus with the Volvo I5 - they sound like the V8 of the milk and juice brigade: I still reckon the LV Focus RS that features heavily in that clip is the toughest looking small Ford they've ever produced, especially in that green or white colour, especially the side profile with that angled rear. I like the LV RS better than the current model RS, especially with the 3 doors. |

This drove up my street when i wasn’t even a teenager back in the late 80s. There has been many cars I’ve heard over the years, but haven’t forgotten the aural pleasure that this gave me.

Yeah I believe he lived at Razorback mountain between Picton and Camden Nsw, where I lived. So it wasn’t too far from home.

Not sure the Police would be too happy these days as seem to focus on car noise........yet a ridiculously loud (and usually crap sounding) Harley can go past which is apparently OK?!? |

Any of Ken Blocks Mustangs (Especially the Hoonicorn V2).
He doesn't race anyone and drives them on roads all over the world so they must be street legal, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg6L_7qLIEQ |

When Rockatansky starts his Interceptor to run down the Nightrider. That bit of audio still sounds awesome 40 years later.

Is it just me (probably is!) but do Ferraris sound a bit lame?
Don't get me wrong I'd love one and never will afford it but reviews always mention "the Ferrari sound" which doesn't really do it for me. Lambo and Maserati I much prefer (let alone muscle cars). Of course no right or wrong on these topics! |

Always will be Ferrari F355 approaching 9000 RPM, spine tingling!

Yeah ok mate as i get the that from Lambos not Ferraris.
In saying that maybe I haven't heard the best ones. The 355 Challenge Edition (i think called with stripes etc) sounds great (but not amazing to me) as a bit raspy/too high. |

Was at a dirt circuit meeting in Whyalla once and heard this screaming V8 coming, unlike anything I'd ever heard before. I was looking for something exotic as no V8 I'd ever seen would rev that hard, and it blew by at warp speed hanging out the back of a VW beetle with it's nose pointed to the sky. Most spine tingling engine sound I've ever heard, it was an animal.
Years later I went to look at a food bus off a bloke and it turned out the bug was his back in the day. The story he told me was that it was a 253 that had been a project for a bunch of engineers at the Edinborough air base out of Adelaide, that he'd managed to acquire through a relative of a mate, who was one of the engineers, and it was capable of running to well over 9000RPM all day long and pull sprint car type HP numbers. It would keep breaking the VW front ends because it would near on do wheelstands every time he hit it and hold the front end up high till he'd button off for the next corner.

Not a favorite so much, but one that took me be surprise.
Years ago I could hear what sounded like something between a racing bike and an F1 approaching from the distance, I looked round and was shocked to see that it was a last model Celica. Obviously had a modified exhaust, as I've never heard one sound like that since. And just looked, those things are Rev limited to 8600rpm.

Standard 351 Cleveland dual exhaust with exhaust manifolds, inside the car not only due to exhaust but the engines calliope and the sound of the exhaust outside as well not too loud or to quiet, I think it had Hills sports mufflers straight through type, so that down in the rev range she is making enough noise and as she revs out it does not get louder. as some dog leg types get to loud as you are revving them right out.
Down the Gold Coast years ago they had the 5.0L touring cars and the 5.7L came that year I don't remember what they were called and boy did they sound a lot better than the 5.0L crap, not to mention go much better. the Indy cars are crap, not bad to listen too for a hour or so but after that they are crap, bring back the F5000 I say any day. |

I was standing waiting to cross the road in Queen St, Campbelltown approx. 27yrs ago when a yellow LJ Torana pulled up at the lights.
It looked pretty stock with Sprintmaster wheels, polished roll cage, full harness' with driver and passenger wearing overalls. When the lights went green the straight 6 screamed down the road leaving a pair of black marks straight past the police station followed by a cloud of smoke. It sounded so good I have been a big fan of 6 cylinder engines ever since. It sounded supercharged but years later I heard a 186 LC Torana with straight cut gears and suspect the LJ may have had the same. |
