Default WHAT Motor Oil???

Guys
Just wondering What oil everyone is using for their AU's???

The thing is my AU S1 Fairmont Ghia VCT says 5w30w on the engine oil cap!!!! Thats fine when the car is new but what should we be using as the motor wears.... Eg. 100000, 200000Km etc.....

My Ghia has 215000km on the clock, runs LPG & is strong as!!!! I've been told as the motors wear you should run a thicker oil????

What's the go out there with everyone????

I usually use a 10W30, but since I put the cam in its a bit noisier so I am now running a 15W40.

15W40 is good fishing for an 11 year old motor on LPG. Try Castrol GTX3 or Shell Helix Super LPG.

Both my AUs on LPG run 15w/40. At the mo I'm using the Shell Helix Super LPG. Seems to be going fine.

Yeah that's right GK. You'd need a damn good reason not to run an LPG AU on 15W40.

Some guys here use it and like it. Others hate it and won't use it. Personally, I found it to be watery at the end of it's service life and my engine was a bit rattly with it.

Haven't used it for a number of years now.

I've used Penrite 10w/50 = good, Pennzoil 10/40 = good and recently made the switch to a mineral Shell LPG 15w/40. So far so good. My service intervals are only 5,000 kms.

SR Sedan, 144,440 kays
Futura Wagon 197,000 kays.

I think the good quality mineral oils are okay, and I'm not changing it at 10,000 kays.

Im currently using Nulon Full Synth 10w/40 fast flowing. But when I had LPG fitted I was using Penrite HPR GAS and that worked well.

But You really wont have many issues with most oils as long as you do regular servicing, and the occasional engine flush

Have used Pentite HPR Gas 10 for the last few years with no dramas at 10k services but just recently thought I'd try the Nulon 15w40 for an immediate power and economy gain. Both my cars have more response and power, especially from a standing start and both vehicles picked up approximately 40-50km to the tank in my driving conditions. The Fairlane was averaging 16L/100km before and is now 15.1L/100km. I haven't done the calculations for the wagon but it would be about the same gain. Haven't reached the first oil change yet so can't speak to the condition of the oil after 10k but will post up when it happens for those interested.

i use 10W30 but my servicing intervals are somewhat relaxed :| however the motor has never missed a beat, and only gets a little noisy when it is low on oil!

And it's for those sorts of reasons Bushbasher that i'm an avid Penrite hater. It's just not right! It does silly things to motors that just don't make sense. I don't know why people like it.
They have stupid weight ratings that no manufacturer specifies. HPR Gas is 10W50, which is too bloody thin when cold and too bloody thick when warm for an I6 on LPG. It's just plain wrong.

Mr Hardware, prior to going to Penrite I tried various oils including Shell, Caltex and Mobil for no noticable difference in power or economy V the penrite but as I remember, the Shell used oil, the Caltex was a little noisy and the Mobil was down right rattly in my 230k NF Fairlane dually. The Penrite ran quiet and stopped the oil loss but was no better or worse re power/economy. This Nulon definitely gives better engine numbers but it remains to be seen whether it uses oil or gets rattly. I'll keep you posted.

If you guys are looking for 15w-40 then valvoline engine armor is the go or a tad thicker is the 15w-50 which is Durablend semi synthetic which i just started using and seems to be good.

I will try out the Nulon 15w40 bush basher and see how that goes.

i think no matter how many different oils we use all of us will have a different oppinion.

Lets face it our motors are the same but different.

we all drive them different, they have been through different stress levels, different climates and so on.

I think no matter on others opinions wich i might add all of us have valid points as to what our motors run better on you should try the different products and find the one that suits your car best.

As i think most of us have done. And my closing statement is if you look after your ford it'll look after you.

Magnatec..maybe for fish n chips!! I used magnatec new oil..went to the drags and by the end of the night the engine sounded like it was gonna blow up..very clanky.Drainedthe oil and a heap of metal pieces..Ok...tried nulon..went to the track...clank clank clank by the end of a few runs..went home more metal!! doh. Chucked penzoil in and what do you know?? After a night of severe burnouts and runs the car came home as quiet as it left. ince I have also tried pernite and that is a very good quality oil as well.
Iwant to get full synthetic 0 50 oil for the car soon. 0 is the flowability at low engine temps. The higher the number the less it flows at lower temps. So a 0 oil will give quicker protection on startup. 50 be a thicker oil as it heats up so i should get the best of both worlds..

Those videos on the Nulon site are pretty impressive.....obviously they don't compare against EVERY oil.......but does state a very good case for the Nulon stuff......at least in terms of performance benefit and value for money!!
