I wouldn't go any bigger than 2 1/4 inch, a set of headers added (if it doesn't already have them) would give it a bit more power as well, just my opinion but anything over 2 1/4 inch on that sized engine is a waste unless it's turbo charged or has had a lot of work done internally in which case 2 1/2 inch should do the trick nicely

The RS motorsport forums have some threads on this issue as well as some really cluey blokes who can sort you out. There is a formula that exists for figuring it out, much like for carburetion - taking into account capacity, revs etc. My RS 10 years ago had extractors and a 2 inch exhaust on a modified engine and it ran well. I think this time I may look at 2.25' . I think any bigger on a street motor is just noise for a pinto

2 litre motors like back pressure, 2 1/4 inch exhaust is more then enough for the street. i have a mk1 2 door circuit car with the 2 litre pinto, big cam, twin 45 dcoes with extractors and a 2 1/4 exhaust plus a hotdog and rear muffler and she screams. (shes also for sale...) if you run too big of an exhaust you can damage your valves and or overheat your motor.

I got a stainless mandrel 2.25 built by CES at Logan (are you in Brissy?) not cheap but good and will likely outlast the car!

just on this, can anyone verify what the standard size of the exhaust would have been on a mk2 rs2000?
I have measured mine at 2 inches, and just wanting to figure out what standard is. Dave |

Got a 2 inch setup from Rob Bliss in Geebung, Brisbane. Did some good work, he used to do Escort exhausts from sunrise to sunset back in the day, & I'm rapt with what I got for my $$$.
2 inch exhaust is the ticket, 2 & 1/4 is also good. Any bigger, & you won't be getting any kick unless you're already flying. |
