Yeah, so not much of a chrissy for me (which sucks, because I love this time of year normally, lol). After THE worst year ever for me, which has involved some pretty messed up things (rape/suicide/homelessness of friends etc, family death and an aunty in hospital currently with brain damage after falling 3 stories), plus nothing coming for chrissy (in fact i'm in debt about 1500 with no money and stuck without a job atm), and now to top it off driving home today hearing my near new clutch drop it's guts and shred itself to bits, then waiting for 2 hours in the rain for RACV/tow truck (plus no money to fix it, lol).. I've kinda given up on xmas for me this year.. lol.
So.. I went to my room, grabbed the majority of my clothes (I really don't wear much, just the same usual items over and over) and some bits and peices (old toys or whatever, some old xbox games which I duno if they could use, lol) and i'm gonna drop it all around at vinnies/red cross or something tomorow if I can get a lift. I duno, it's small I suppose, though I don't have much anyway, but it's something i've never done and after being through a lot this year i've realised how bad some people really have it. So yeah.. Does anyone else give what they can/anything this time of year? I'm not out to make people feel bad or BS hero stories.. Just interested to hear different sides of christmas from people (whether good or bad) and what it means to them etc. Meh. End of crappy rant and lamest thread award of the year.. Woo =P |

sorry to hear about the **** of year you had, must of been very hard for you. Then your car braking down so close to christmas, yet you can still find the christmas spirit to give when you yourself are so down.
i have givin to vinnies a few times, but nothing out of the extra ordinary like you. even though you said you have givin up on christmas this year, i wish you the best, and a very merry christmas and happy new year. also don't forget, that good things happen to people that find the best out of every situation. pete j |

That sucks mate, hope it turns out good for ya. I've haven't had the best time in the last few years. I try to think of it as character building if nothing else.
On a lighter note. I give all year, I pay taxes. It's xmas all year round for the government. |

Not the lamest thread by any means and if more did what you are, there wouldnt be so much of a problem.
I spent a modest amount on my nearest and dearest this year, funds aren't as plentiful as I'd like and I'm not much of a giftgiver, but I bought just enough to show I care about the people close to me. Even after spending that much, I still feel very much obliged to give whatever I can to the salvos etc, so I did. I figure if I can afford to spend money on people around me, I can afford to do my part in giving everybody else a decent Christmas.

Its funny, but I've found that giving something to someone else doesn't really ever seem like a loss to yourself. I've found that when I pay even small amounts more than I needed to for something, I'm regretful that I didn't get the most out of it. However, I've found that when a larger amount of my money/time/resources goes into giving something, I have no regret about my actions. In fact, I find I get a peacefullness within me when I do.
popinfresh, it takes great character to give when you're not in a position of abundance. Good on ya mate! Time and time again, I see people who are regular givers get out of bad situations so I hope and pray that next year will be a good one for ya.
