Default Has anyone noticed that people cant form Q's???

Got some fast food today, and couldn't believe that i couldn't fit into the shop even though there where only 5 people waiting. 1 at each register, and everyone else standing back at the door a good 15 feet back!!!!. I asked who was in line, and they said they all where, they still didnt move _ . So then I asked if they could move up a bit so i could fit in the shop _ They looked at me like i was mental. :

This seems to happen all the time now, is it just me or do people just not know how to line up??? Do they just not want to commit to a Q as they are scared of picking the slow one?

Created from the logic that if we hold back, then we can get which ever register becomes free next. Too impatient these days.

It's no longer "I don't mind the person behind me getting served first and waiting an extra 5 minutes in this que", it's "I walked through the door 2nd, I GET SERVED 2ND, no matter what".

I'm just suprised you found a fast food place that had under 10 people in it.... : Not soo "fast" anymore? 2 Minutes noodles taste better and are quicker.

Thats cool, but they can at least take 1 step into the shop. 1 guy was actually standing in the beam for the door alarm, making it ring until one of the girls behind the counter switched it off.

i get this all the time where i work, people just cant form a line at all, they line up along the counter so you have no idea who to serve next, and often people get really shitty if you jump to someone else even after you ask whose next or something to that effect.

Even worse, where i work, we've got double sided counters, and despite you being on 1 side serving people lined up, someone will always come to the otherside expecting to get served, then take great offence when you ask them to line up like the rest.

Also, our counters a really big and long, and despite customers lined up, some people will go to a gap on the counter and wait there turn, as if where supposed to know where the place in the line would have been :

I agree!!

Pick a line and stay there

The "fast food" shops could help out by actually having some food cooked in the warmer, like in the good old days when the food was "fast" not "freshly made for you". Though I suppose the nanny state has regulated that is not allowed any more

Half the time you line up behind a guy that is standing in front of a closed till waiting for his "special" burger but is too inconsiderate to tell you he is not actually in line.

In central London there is a Maccas which has an express lane for people against the side of the wall, you can only order a 1,2, or 3, set combos, (like Mc Value meals etc) no hold the gherkin etc.
All up it takes about 45seconds

Person 1 takes your order, Person 2 takes your money, (no eftpos), person 3 gives you the food.

Brilliant!!

There is still a normal line for other orders as well

You know what irritates me so much? And this happens too often. You get in line at say KFC and there's 20 people in it and you think this must be the line and then you look accross and you see a person being served and no one lined up behind him/her and you think, why the hell are 20 people lined up here when that other registers open yet no one will budge from the line with 20 people in it BUT then someone makes a bold move and moves to the other free register and they get snickered at and told off by the very people who didn't bother moving to that other register themselves. It makes no sense! :

If I see a free register, I'm goin' to it! :

Meh... these people will have a tough time in Asia... that 15 feet of empty space would have had 25-30 people crammed in waiting in line (if they were even trying to line up at all)...

When I went to Vietnam I was waiting behind another chap at the ATM. I left the usual arms distance space between us and sure enough I reach down to my pocket to get my phone and look up and some tool jammed himself between us!

The Taiwanese know how to form a line, not like in Japan where you just get crammed onto a train or a bus. In Taiwan they have markings on the ground for everything and they pay attention to them and no-one ever cuts lines or pushes-in.

I think a que system similar to banks or supermarket express checkouts should be initiated, where everybody jumps into the one line and when a server comes free the first person in line moves through. No more blocked door ways at KFC or Macca's.

That, and I think people guard their 'personal space/privacy'. Add into that most people have arrived by car and we have a general dislike of each other (as displayed on the road) and then take that 'attitude' into the shops proper.

Certain of it.

The Koreans generally can form a line, but once it's time to move it's every man for himself. 2 of my favourite clips... getting on and off the subway in Korea.

while fast food shops etc. should be like banks and the cinemas that have one line and everyone gets in that and waits for their turn, why not just see who got in the shop before you, wait for them to be served and then get served yourself

no one has to wait outside, just know the order, let those before go first and then get served before those after you

An I is easier to form than a Q. Start them off on easier letters and work your way up from there. In no time they'll be spelling whole words!

I'm a P man myself. I'll commit to a P in a heartbeat.

You don't have to go to Korea to see that. There's a few train lines in Melbourne that are a good match, complete with a bit of aggro from the odd clown who cracks it because they think that somebody in the aisle has taken up more than 5cm of allocated space.
