Default Looking at a AuIII xr6 st "sprint"

Hey guys, thinking about my next purchase. Does anyone know any info on the au3 xr6 st limited edition models? From what i have heard there is only 125 made? Do they have a mod plate to back it up?
Cheers, ash

there was only 125 made. they were a run out model. they dont have "mod plate" only the xr8 full body kit, the leather seats, 18" rims and the momo wheel/gear knob. they dont have any more power than a vct engine. plus "st" decals on rear doors and on the back.

some people speak of them as they were ultra tricky things, but there not really. still they are a nice thing.

They also have IRS rear end with LSD and I think premium sound may have found its way into some ,essentially it's the same as specced up late XR8 ,just a VCT motor instead , a nice ride indeed , they are heavier than live axle cars so no real performance was gained.

Should update this post, i ended up buying the car for 6,500 will post up pictures soon. Such a great car to drive. Could use some 4.11's and tune ;) pretty much the goals for this one is bring it back to showroom condition and upspec the brakes. Last of the performance xr6's need to take care of this one. Also looking around for a eb sxr6 in good straight/original condition to add to the collection

All VCT XR and Ghia sedans had IRS in the AU. It was just a nice, run out, specced up XR6 VCT in the end.

Congrats on the buy Trav, hang on to it buddy! 74 built sheesh! The phone call would've been a nice thrill to go with your new ST! I'm wondering if you plan to mod it or keep it stock now. All the best with it!

cheers, Maka

Cool Re: Looking at a AuIII xr6 st "sprint"

Hi all, The Blueprint Tickford Magazine, 2002, Special Windsor V8 Collector's Issue has a brief explanation of the AUIII XR6 ST:- First Ever XR6 Limited Edition, fully-equipped version of the XR6 VCT called the ST. Was announced at the Melbourne Motor Show. Has IRS, Leather Trim, Momo leather covered steering wheel and gear knob and XR floor mats. Ford Racing body styling as introduced on the XR8 Rebel. ST badging on both rear doors and boot, 18 inch Azzurro alloy wheels and Dunlop SP9000 tyres from the TE50. Only 125 built. The ST name makes reference to the Sprint heritage while preserving Sprint V8 exclusivity. Colours include Blueprint, Liquid Silver, Silhouette and Venom. Also has the same ride height as the AUIII XR8. My AUIII XR6 ST is a beautifully balanced car ( heavy IRS with the light VCT engine ), a delight to steer on windy roads, and made even more enjoyable to drive with the 5 speed manual.

Hi guys, I'm the very proud owner of one of the 74 made, I also did believe there was 125 of the ST made , black 149k .
It's a very worthy replacement for my EL Mont , which was stolen 5 weeks ago, as per my profile pic ...
Can't post pics yet , but will soon
Cheers tony

Have you got the magazine? Also i was misstaken on the phone, i got the letter from ford, did not have build numbers but the limited edition model is option 74: st pack so the 125 figure is most likely right...

T series are going down, like alot of cars at the moment, I would not suggest buying an AU as a collectors car unless your keen to hold onto it for 10-20 years.

Just enjoy them.

ST would sell a little above your regular S3 XR6 VCT. Given they were optioned up, that should give it a little more value, but they certainly won't command the same prices as the T's.

Does $5,700 - $7,500 (from redbook) sound ok for this car I have described?
As ive said its an AU XR6 ST in Blueprint

5 spd manual, just clocked 100,000 km, VCT, 2.5 exhaust, stock 18" wheels, leather interior. Everything stock apart from exhaust.

Can any of owners give me an overall impression of the AU xr6? I've never driven one obviously. How do they go in terms of reliability, power, comfort and all that?
