Hi Guys
Just a Quick question, I own a 93 model telstar GHIA (Sedan) and the electric aerial is playing up - i can hear the motor trying to wind the aerial up and down as I turn the ignition on and off, however the aerial doesn't move. Any idea what it might be? (As i said is seems as though the motor is fine...) I have disconnected power to the motor for now, thinking that might reduce the chance for any more damage, and I tried to take the aerial out however I don't know how to remove the aerial where it connects to the outside of the body... there is a rubber seal with a chrome bit on top and i don't know how it comes off. (I have found that there is a bolt under the boot lining that holds the bottom part of the motor in, just don't know how to get the top part off Thanks for any help you can offer Nick |

It's probably good that you can't get it off from the outside otherwise you might go out one night and have a large hole there when you return. :P
You might need to remove the gaurd to get to it, then give it a clean and see how it goes.

The problem you have (if you are still having it) is that the toothed plastic rope (that's what they are called) in the mast is broken.
Very common problem and easily fixed. The old mast can be removed easily by undoing the metal ring around the very top of the aerial body. (with the aerial down it is the ring just outside the nob at the top of the mast). Turn the radio on and run the mast out, pulling gently to make sure that the entire mast comes out from the body. The replacement mast, which you have already bought from Repco/SuperSheep or similar, should then be lined up and slotted into the hole, making sure that the bottom of the new mast is either in the hole or very ready to slide in there. Turn the radio off and feed the new mast in as the rope is picked up by the motor. Once the aerial is in properly (sometimes takes a few goes) put the locking nut/ring back on and......enjoy!
