Death threat..

Just received a death threat, via txt message on my cell phone. Apparently some one wants me dead, i have to pay $5,000.00 to save my life. I am not to notify police otherwise he does it for free.....contact this person killerking247@yahoo.com............rang the ferny grove police immediately, they reckon its a nigerian scam...anyone else got a txt like that...

I got one of those maybe two years ago when there was a rash of them going around. It was with some Russian email address (.ru on the end).
It said something about "I am going to kill you" and then went on to say something about unless I emailed this person with details of how to pay $10,000, I would be a dead man.

It's good to know this isn't a one off or personal. Found the article you mentioned. Sounds shocking though, this scammer is using a cheap tactic to extort money.

POLICE are investigating a spate of "death threat" texts that have spooked Sunshine Coast residents.

The scam messages received today said: "Sum1 paid me to kill you. get spared, 48hrs to pay $5000. If you inform the police or anybody, death is promised ... E-mail me now: killerking247@yahoo.com''.

The Sunshine Coast is the latest area targeted by the scam, which has come to the attention of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's SCAMwatch and several police and law enforcement agencies.

Police told The Courier-Mail that a number of alarmed residents from Kawana, Maroochydore and Coolum had contacted them after receiving the hoax threats.

Some locals came into Kawana station and others were so distressed cars were sent out to see them.

"We have not seen a scam so targeted,'' a police spokesman said.

"This is the first one so concentrated and in such a short period of time.''

A Coolum resident said she was shocked to receive the "hit man'' SMS this morning. The number that came up on her phone was 0000.

"My heart skipped a few beats, but then I realised it was a scam. I reported it to police and they said I was the third caller in six minutes,'' she said.

"I have received scam texts before, but this was the most frightening.''

The scam is designed to frighten the recipient and has already snared victims across Australia and in other countries.

SCAMwatch urges anyone who has received emails, or text messages, of this nature not to respond, send any money or provide any personal information or risk becoming a victim of identity fraud.

If you have received any threats, call police or the ACCC Infocentre on 1300 302 502. Noting the text and the phone number may assist in any investigations.

We had something similar. Although we got a couple of randoms from 2 different guys, 2 different stories so I sent the details of the 1st guy (pretending it was my details) to the second guy and vice versa. That would have caused confusion
