I cant believe it!! How big a scum are some pharmeceutical companies. My wife had ear problems recently after our flight to Cairns from the flight. Part of the recovery medicine was sudafed.Sudafed contains pseudoephedrine for nasal congestion. After 7 days she stopped using it in guidelines.Sypmtoms persisted..she was advised to use bisolvon sinus. So she did...but guess what?? It has bloody pseudoephedrine as well.
To top it off Zyrtec was also advised to be used...that too has pseudoephedrine. It makes your arteries constrict and your heart race..like your on the go. A guy like me recovering from heart operation can die from this rubbish! With so many people dying from heart disease what are the long term effects to anyones heart health?? So many cough medicines have this in there.Dont take the crap it is no good. Most of the packages dont even show that it has this bullcrap drug. Just keep away guys.

I would be more concerned with your pharmasist.....
All the Pseudoephedrine drugs are classified in Australia as "S1" drugs and should only be available via a pharmacy, where they are obligated to ask a number of pre-cursor questions to determine if you are able to take them without negative side effects...

huge doses of anything over the counter will kill/injure you, maybe you's should have seeked medical advice or ask your GP before taking that stuff.
best medicine i found is rest + heaps of water and sometimes small doses to help

What I'd like to know is why are you so angry...??? None of the drugs on the schedule you posted are dangerous unless they are missused. Almost everything on that schedule is a recommended daytime use drug and is aimed at helping you to get off the couch and get on with your day. The easiest way to achieve this is with pseudoephedrine as it is basically a mild "upper" Did you use lemsip from the supermarket or did you use the "Lemsip pharmacy flu strength daytime"...??? The stuff from Coles/Safeway has mild anaesthetic/antibiotic properties but not much else. The flu strength can only be purchased via a script and no GP or chemist worth their salt would dispense it to a heart patient. |

I use Logicin when I have a cough, as it's the only thing that stops me coughing.
It's 60% pseudoephedrine. I only found out about the side effects after I'd been on it a couple of days, and even then it was only when my Dad read the bottle, and realised what was in it.

Off Topic here for a moment BUT :-
If anyone is taking "Prednesone / Cortisone" etc. (Injections , Cream or Pills) for extended periods , be aware of the Side Effects . I'm surprised how many people I talk to "Haven't" been told by the Doctor what to expect . Osteoperosis (Oldies bone disease) You can get medication to "off set" this . Infections Skin/Tissue Deterioration Excessive Bleeding & Bruising Severe Mood Swings Fluid Retention Magic Drug , fixes heaps of things , but just be very careful , specially sporting people , gives you a "high" and seems great at the time but you may "pay for it" in years to come . I'm speaking from experience here , I've been on it for 40yrs on & off and have all the above side effects . (Even had 9 cracked ribs from coughing & sneezing) Ok , back to topic .......

Guys I am upset because it has affected my Mrs. Not being able to sleep ,anxiety all from someone always calm cool and collected .It causes the heart to race and as I mentioned constricts the blood vessels raising blood pressure. If you had a heart condition and went to buy some lemsip wouldn't you want to know about it? As for me I dont care.
However at the end of the day it should be labelled clearer and not have any indication at all. Norm xb you are on topic mate. Ford boy a seemingly innocent lemsip which you can buy from the supermarket (as I thought) for a cold may be dangerous for long term usage and addictive. Psycho chicken..I had a cold..bought lemsip and nasal spray .To my surprise they both contained the substance and it took a google search to find out just as I was researching the wifes problem.

Ask your Dr or Pharmacist for information, its heaps easier and because they should know your history they generally won't prescribe something bad for you. If in doubt, they will reassure, doesn't hurt to ask

It is YOUR responsibility to check EVERY type of medication before YOU consume it. Simple as that.

For male eyes only: I understand that for priapism (when the old boy is stuck in the up position) they give you sudafed to make it go down again. So don't use it when you've just met a new girlfriend.

We get idiots like you standing at the counter sprouting this crap to customers we are tryin to consult, or even worse keyboard cowboys that have googled medicine101fordummies.com etc and think they know more than you with multiple years of experience. pseudoephedrine isn't in plain zyrtec as you claim, it is in zyrtec decongestant which has a BRIGHT red stripe on it, and is hard to miss... if you are going to whinge, get your facts straight, I think most people on here have managed to see the stupidity of this post, but i couldnt hold back on this one |

BEST HAY FEVER PREVENTION
Are Garlic & Horseradish Tablets( all natural) I suffered from acute hay fever leading to chronic sinusitus. Have been taking the above for over 10 years. Now free from Hay Fever etc, still suffer the odd throat tickle but are free from the stuffy head and other irritations. Take 1 capsule a day allow 3 weeks for the Horseradish to kick in hey presto. Take all year round. I purchase from the Supermarket 3 months supply around $13. |

Iv'e been taking Cenovis Garlic and Horshradish tablets for many years as I get bad hayfever, been much better since being on them than I used to be without them.
I used to have attacks that would last a couple of days constantly sneezing, running nose, sore sinus, streaming eyes etc, terribly debilitating thing hayfever. Would strongly recommend the Garlic and Horshradish for anyone with hayfever. I still sometimes have the occasional attack and for that I find the only thing that helps is "Polarimine" tablets, apparantly they're the strongest things you can get over the counter for hayfever, used to need a prescription for them not so long ago. |

I think pseudoephedrine is great - always gets me breathing again when I have a cold/flu or whatever.
It should be used with caution in people with a heart condition (caution, as in its not necessarily going to kill you as you put it) but your pharmisist should have advised that and it is probably written on the packet.
