Unhappy Bitten!

Woke up (too) early this morning and found that i had been bitten (just above the groin) by a tick.

Is hard to think of what to do when your still walking around in dreamland.

I ended up finding the tweezers and pulling the sucker out. Now i've been up for hours as the pain won't go away :-(

Sucks to be me

Ticks arent all that bad! Of late being pulling about ten a week out of the dog (they can be fatal if left in long enough) and its not even summer yet! she doesnt seem to be affected by them though. Had quite a few in me over the years, the big blue ones just look plain scary!!

try this link... Click here

I had a large blue tick about the size of a finger nail (can cause paralysis in cats and dogs) attached to my right thigh. Off to the quack for me. I was pretty sick for a few days.

Another good trick to get them out if you're fairly dexterous, is to loop a peice of cotton over their head and hold the two ends out to either side. pull gently and slowly on the left hand thread until the tick rotates and virtually falls out. It is also a good idea to have someone else holding the body of the tick gently with tweezers while you do this. Do not pull though.

If you get one in your foot and don't get it out, they will just keep crawling until they cant crawl anymore. (ie: your skull)

Kinda like the scarab beetles in "The Mummy"

I believe we DO have "crabs" down here (And NO, NOT from experience lol)... Are they a member of the tick family?.. That "Ixodes" tick in the link looks similar?
(God, how do we get on these subjects?)

I had a tick in the back of my leg, no idea where it came from, went to the doc and he got it out, for a few years after wards every now and then, it would swell up a bit were the tick was taken out, seemsm to have stopped now.

Did'nt look at the link however there are many types of ticks in OZ the worst being the eastern paralysis tick not only fatal for animals but humans too...which is why I said...'get yourself to a doc asap' considering where he lives any part left in can cause big problems.

In the Territory we deticked our dogs every day and got at least a dozen every time even worse in Darwin..but at least there not the nasty type.

Having said that if you leave ticks on your dog they can multiply and eventually bleed your dog to death..always check your dog for ticks at least once a week or more depending where you live.
