Gday,

Just showing the world of Ford Forums some colourcoding I did. I coded the foglight surround before, but they didn't turn out how I liked. They were too dull...

I also put some nite shade spray on my rear tail lights. Whaddayathink... I know I need window tinting now.

On Sunday I bought 3 spraypacks from Supercheap, plastic primer, gloss black and clear coat, as well as a bottle of metho. I also got a bottle of mineral turps when I stuffed up on the tail lights.

Coded Fog light Surrounds

I dropped into KFC Woodbine for dinner, having no grill got a few looks, When I was coming back out had some people say amongst themselves "check out the intercooler in that!"

Colour coded rear strip:

Tail Lights:

Grill (I forgot to bring the bonnet lock with me so I didn't replace this at the carwash, hence the dirt marks on the grill surround)

You can see the colour difference where I masked where the Ford badge goes

I'll post more pics later when I'm on my laptop.

OMG lucky, I thought you painted your bits (wedding tackle) but yeah looks tops keep up the good work. I want a LS but love my LR too much update plus money lol

The Niteshade looks really good on the tail lights, would imagine it wouldn't be as subtle on the sedan tail lights...

Grill respray looks great too

Go give it a go, if it doesn't look good you can return it to what it was with just a cup of mineral turps.

I was trying to work out if maybe the front had mesh on it or something

Thats a monster of an intercooler... so no dramas with the car drawing warmer air onto the radiator then?

God knows how you fitted that in there.... where di you get it done if you dont mind me asking?

I had to admit the normal focus does look a touch "plasticy" the way they designed it. The black normally hides this though. Does look the good.... still 50/50 on the tail lights... i was thinking of tinting mine as well.

I just figured he had done work to the engine and went stupid crazy on the intercooler.
Any mod shop willing to make something that large.. haha figured would make someting easy as pie for the XR5.

Just wanted to ask you how easy were the fog light surrounds coming off? i actually thought they were stuck on the bumper at first. Im going to color code my ones too and just wanted to know how u took them off. Thanx

Good idea, but i would probably have taken it to a proper paint place to have all of this done.

Bit tricky the first time you do it (as with other things).

I'd start off taking the headlight out (the torx/flathead combo screw) and a clip on the lower side, pull the headlight out (forward) about 4cm then lift it from where the indicator is on the light. It will sort of swivvel out.

Rest it on the radiator support and get the power clip off (small flathead screwdriver levered under the plug housing on the "inner side" of the plug.

Once out pull the buldge bit above the foglight. Get your fingers in there from underneath. A bit of off topic info, when you take it off there is a hole with a thread in it. This is where the towing eyelet thats attached to the jack goes. (on the back bumper theres a square piece of bumper).

From there you should be able to carefully lever out the fog light surround. It may help to push the tabs from behind as well. Be very careful if your using metal tools. If it slips you scrath your front bar. Start on the side closest to the number plate and work around. Leave the side closest to the side of the car to last, and be careful that the middle clip on the bottom isn't bent in any silly way(if you try to get your hand in there to sort of pull it it'll probably snap, I used a really big screwdriver)

This is advice only, if anything happens I have no responsibility; use a bit of thought and common sense when doing it. ;)

Wow not as easy as i thought but thanx alot for that information. I was hoping u would say something like jack it up, take off a couple of clips behind the bumper and they pop out hehe. I think i might just leave it to panel beater to take care of it, once i get my XR5 spoiler, ill get a quote to get them done altogther.

If I was going to do a panel that had to be smooth, yes I would have done the same. But for dicky little plastic bits with a rough texture, I didn't want to pay someone for a job I can do with the same quality.

Has anyone painted their bits on their LR Focus?

Im keen to either colour code all the dull plastics around the body (ie. side and rear strips and the door handles), or spray them a gloss black.. Any idea how much getting them sprayed professionally would cost?
