So the wife's 2007 Focus made this odd noise after turning off the engine. It went on for about 2minutes and stopped with solid clonk like a solenoid closing. 2litre petrol, no check engine lights, my thought was the idle control valve.

I'll try again, hopefully the link work this time. Any thoughts on the source and/or course?

Not sure about the Focus - but quite a few cars are designed to do this. Pretty sure it's part of the fuel/emissions system ie fuel purge solenoid shutting off after it's done it's job.

Thanks for the thought. It sounds like something is being modulated. For a evap/purge I would have thought that a valve would be held open and it would be pretty quite.
Cheers

Fairly common for the drive by wire throttle motor to cycle after shutdown. They will occasionally do a self test but some do it more often for whatever reason. Feel for a slight vibration on the throttle motor when you can hear the noise.

Mine's not so loud, nor does it run that long! But I have a similar sound, but sounds more cool, like a little jet engine spooling down.
