they wont fit the factory holes with out widening them or putting massive spacers under. I fitted my 6x9's with a small trim to the factory holes, and some 3/4 inch MDF spacers.

Or buy some 5x7s - they fit with no spacers, no cutting, and sound just as good; rear speakers are really only for "fill" anyway, so buy a reasonably priced set for the rear, and buy a good set of splits for the front.

Using 10mm MDF we cut out spacer that 'just' gave enough meat for the screws to go through as well as the the shelf:
The only downside to this is that you do get about a 5-7mm gap from the speaker to the parcel shelf, but unless you get in the boot its not noticeable. Just thought I'd give you some ideas Edit: After installing these I decided to screw putting the 6" speakers I had in the front and invest in a good set of 5x7's, so much less work and the sound is just as good if not better. |

just an extra bit of info, if you're running a sub (which I am) I found that running the 6x9's though a high-pass filter really helped the overall sound as they tend to create a bass note of their own which interferes with the subs note.
The gap does let a 'tad' more bass into the cabin but im no audiophile so it suffices for my purposes. Your install looks good, you've got the majority of the surface area of the 6x9's exposed though the factory hole which means that you should get a fairly good sound. |
