Default Ford committed to leaving Aus.

Complete lack of advertising Falcon or Territory for how long???
Add during today's bathurst for Mustang.
Talk about lay down and die, no fight what so ever.
XR8 can't keep up to demand, what a load of rubbish, any excuse to get out of selling falcons.

Yes unfortunately Ford seem convinced 'people don't want big cars'. Just a trend where everyone like to have an suv or hot hatch. Unfortunately it's a trend that has stuck round so long it has killed off a great car

But going down fighting is just not in the equation. That turbo 4, that turbo 6, geez just give em an upgraded dash and a few mods like push button start and i'm sure sales figures would make it a viable option to continue making our local products. OK i know i am wrong but we dropped like we were paid to in a fixed boxing match.

Well the best selling Ford in Australia is comfortably the biggest it makes.

Per advertising, could be that Ford is trying to clear the Falcon/Territory to make room for the Mondeo/Everest... no sense in advertising a car that's about to be replaced...?

Ford Australia has been making losses for a long time. Forget about your affection towards the Falcon nameplate and think about what you would do if it was YOUR money that was being flushed down the drain.

The Mustang will prove to be the superior sports vehicle, the biggest loss will be the Barra Turbo. I have an inckling that there will be a lucrative market for fitting the XR6T engines into stock V6 Mustangs.

I don't think it will fit, and for the effort it would probably be easier to put a supercharger or turbo kit on the Mustang GT.

V6 mustang isn't coming here, and with the ecoboost showing it's just as quick if not quicker than a stock barra with simple mods you wouldn't swap it out either.

Go back in time and look up the reviews given to our locally made products by the world press, all good but all a threat to locally made so rejected.

We - GMH +Ford have been able to do the almost impossible. That is design and build a car for a small population and then make enough sales to survive to repeat.

We have repeatedly shown we produce a superior product but because of protectionism by our own parents we have been left to die.
Seriously, look at the I6 turbo.
Is it good?
Look at the 4 cyl turbo, is it good?

Price is determined by how many you can sell, the more the cheaper but we have always faced insurmountable walls apposed to our selling on a world market.

But that's the issue, none of the three can build and sell enough to make a profit.

Even if ford was number one in the market it still wouldn't be enough to be viable.

ford is closing plants all over the place, the falcon and terri are just collateral damage trying to keep fords other remaining plants viable and making cars that deliver profit.

Ford are a GLOBAL company and need to shift resources to markets that need them china/india, keeping a tiny loss making offshoot in Australia running is counter to that plan. Its not personal.

How about you check my post history.....I'm one of the biggest supporters on here of ford and their awesome local products. I own the one I personally believe to be the best ever.
But the simple sucky long winded truth is our govco bailed on supporting the auto industry along time ago, which instantly meant the 'responsible' auto makers had to start cutting back and executing an exit plan. No more world class ecolpi falcons, territory's, turbo falcons,GT 335s and so on! We simply can't build cars cheap enough in aus compared to Asian countries if left to our dollar to support it. FACT. It's very basic overall.......but don't get me wrong...I'm crying about it!

People are still complaining about this? A family taxi that nobody buys anymore sold exclusively in a underpopulated country in the middle of nowhere is no longer going to be made. Falcon was a nice car for what it was; cheap, basic, straight line performance with 4 doors/ute. Was it a world beater? Well if all you wanted was a big motor and nothing else then yeah sure. Ford Aus were losing money hand over fist, anyone who thinks thats a good business model is deranged.

Ever heard of the 300C or Charger? Sold cheaper, with a ridiculous amount of tech and just as good in a straight line as the Falcons. Your passion is kind of admirable but dont make up things to support it.

Although your right your a little brutal.
Not so long ago these turbo falcons were openly claimed as the best sports sedans in the world under 100k.
The GT335 has been an Australian engineering masterpiece....clearly shown by the aftermarket ability of the engine package. (And even the undertyred chasis)
That's a HUGE accomplishment to be even considering that. But from there it all started heading South as sales numbers declined and cuts had to be made. Over the years people have questioned fords timing in cutting models, and lack of bigger leaps forward in model evolution, but in hind sight they've prevented themselves from a billion dollar exit fee when aus production shuts down. And essentially that's what it's all about! $$$

I genuinely didn't intend to be but I'm so over this complaint. Ford Aus were just losing to much money to continue on as they were. Especially when Ford NA could just send the new Stang here and the Mondeo.

Don't know why this topic keeps coming up, once ford made the announcement that's when their manufacturing commitment ended, it's never been about selling the falcon or territory from that day onward , it's been about preparing for the "new ford image" in 2016.
How successful that will be is another story

Tbh on this point , although I don't fully disagree with what your saying , the last time ford ACTUALLY put an ad in for The falcon was in about 2008 / 2009 when the fg first came out,
There has never been any advertising by ford for the falcon since then really,
Yes they advertise the fiesta, ranger & focus but that's it,
It's clear that ford gave up on the falcon then not recently.
In comparison, holden have also killed off local production but even last night are flogging off the commodore on tv in new ads,

So the Ford driving around Bathurst all day was not advertisement?

What is the point of advertising something when it is already splashed over the screen in the race.

A questions to ask yourself.

If you owned a product and it was being replaced and made in limited numbers in the next 2 years would you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to advertise it?

But it's the market that abandoned the affordable large RWD 6 cylinder family sedan. When I say market, I mean enough of it to not make it viable.

The Ford driving around Bathurst is no different to all the other cars driving around bathurst, they are all the same underneath ( and in no way anything like you can buy anyways, shell yes, engine etc no) a few small tweaks to hopefully gain an advantage and the driver plus luck makes a difference.
Bathurst is more like owning an RC car, just bolt a different body on top.

The old days of "first on race day, sold on monday" are long gone.

I find it ironic that we are said to have too small of a population to support a local car industry, yet we have the most brands on sale here of any of the developed nations.

Seems the "importers" see our small population as a very viable business, even if some are getting much less than 1% of the total market.

There is a difference in cost between setting up a car manufacturing industry vs importing cars.
