What is the situation in the rest of Aus?. Have stumped up $400 for 2 years of personalized Gold on Black slim plates for my Sprint Turbo that read LAST 1. Go down to pick the ****ers up and am told they can not be handed over until they are allocated to a car. What is the go elsewhere.
Mighty ****ed off. First world problem I know |

Don't know the terms & conditions regarding S.A. personalised plates but would have thought you would at least have read them before handing your money over.
Over here in Victoria you order & pay & they will post them out to you once manufactured, don't need to be on car straight away. |

I used to have a set of custom plates back in the day. I ordered and paid for them online, they were delivered a few days later to the office.
Oh and to the OP, you've spelled Victoria wrong D |

Here in Vic when I got my plates, they sent them to me with a letter saying when you want to allocate them to a car given them a call or go to vic roads.
Also no yearly fee here, you purchase them as a once off. When you want to change the car there on, you go to vic roads and pay the $100 or so fee, and they will be allocate them to the next car. Also if you don't have a car to put them on, they can stay in your name until you get a car to put them on. |

In the NT they are in your name and in your possession but if you haven't put them on a registered vehicle within 12 months then whatever is on the plate is back up for grabs by someone else.

We pay to buy a set of personal plates in wa and never have to pay for the priveledge to own them again,we get a "right to display or trade" certificate which proves you own the plates, nobody can ever have the same plates as you unless you sell them and then you give the new owner the certificate of "right to display or trade" almost like a pink slip of sorts.
If our plates aren't on a car the license centre holds them indefinitely because they basically have control of unused plates,i have old private plates that I don't have on a car and every 12 months the license centre sends me a letter asking me if I want them destroyed because they have to store them lol I think wa licensing/plate/laws/fines in general are very good compared to other states. |

Never own the plates, you just pay for the right to display them every year. Can be taken off you at any time if someone complains they are offensive. I pay $440 a year for my custom plates (6 letters), but even the standard combination I wanted to buy for Dad of his 3 initials and 3 numbers is $102 a year extra. I just missed out on ordering them before they brought in that fee. A workmate got his middle name and the year he was born and pays nothing extra for it.

I'd like to know who deems the plates 'offensive' Here in WA they cancelled all state plates with an F prefix because there too much chance of the F word coming up, yet I see a little MK1 Capri going around with the plates 'CRAPI' I made an application for 'CRAPTINA' and it was accepted, lol, didn't go through with it, just couldn't do it to the old girl...
With most personalised combos taken now they've thought up a new scam, the Prestige series, you get a plaque on the side with a swan logo and the letter 'W' then your combo eg if I wanted RS2000 it would be registered as W RS2000 allowing them to issue all the previous combos over again. All at a cost of roughly two grand a set. People a buying them too...

When I bought the BA I wanted to swap my custom plates from my old XD onto the BA, and the standard plates from the BA to the XD for sale.
That was too complicated. The BA got the custom plates, but the XD had to have new plates issued, and they held the others for me until they could figure it out. When they finally called and told me I could put the old plates on the XD, it had already been sold.

Our wa private plates up to 9 letters or numbers are about 600 to 700 outright to buy,no further fees ever. I have private plates on my g6e with 2 letters two numbers and wa at the end and they were only about $2-250. |

Take it easy. your previous post suggest you didn't know that either, in the interim I've been in NZ and found you don't have to hand in a personalised plate either.
I'm not sure why the rules are different. They could be stolen/borrowed without the owners knowledge and used for quite some time before anybody notices. Plates are often stolen for Petrol drive offs or Toll evasion.
