Default Fuel through the $2 a litre barrier in Sydney!

Well, looks like the day has finally come that fuel prices in Sydney have pushed through the $2 barrier! To infinity and beyond from here I guess. Never thought I'd see the day so soon!

Still under $2/L here in boganistan, 91 is $1.499 which would put 98 around that $1.75/L mark.

98 is still $1.59 at my local Mobil. But Coles is leading the way here as usual at $1.78.

Our local BP is $1.68 for 98 but the Shell, as usual, were first to move!

Its like I'm on holiday in NZ without the flight!

I remember when Viva and Coles made their deal that fuel was going to be cheaper. Oh how I laughed.

Save 4 cents per litre if you spend $5 in store!

Terms and conditions apply (the $5 is more than what the 4 cents saves you lol)

Instead of making 2 cents per litre on fuel they make $4 on the mars bar

Our local has shell 98 @ 200.9c, and the BP up the road @ 179.9c (BP up from 167.9c when I filled 5 days earlier). Must be a supply issue with Shell at the moment

You'd think that would drop the price rather than increase it with extra supply. During the peak of the pandemic last year, fuel became very cheap.

I still have a notebook from Dec 1980, drove my 73 HQ Premier back to the NT, I had flown back for a funeral old boss, died same day as John Lennon, but just made it through the wet, got the notebook somewhere, even time I stopped to fuel up I wrote litres, cost and milage.

Left Guildford Sydney 17c litre, by the time I got to the NT it was 50c litre and pumped out of a 44 gallon drum!
So the equivalent today of $6 bucks a litre!
First time I did that drive, should of filled up at the Three Ways

Cheers Billy

Hi Everyone,
When i started working at a garage in Paddington petrol was 20 cents a litre and that was a lot then.

In 2018 my wife and myself went thru Queensland, and then drove up to Alice Springs.
On the way i wrote how much petrol was. Unleaded was 185.9 and Dieasel was 185.9.
At mount Isa petrol was 188.9 .

Yes there will always be a reason.
Imagine if I said to my customers, sorry prices are up 50% to cover the 50% drop in sales we've suffered due to lock down in June, July and now all of August...

I remember when debit cards first appeared and the servo I regularly filled up LPG at had a $10 minimum spend to use the eftpos card.....I had to buy Mars Bars to get up to the $10 limit....

Just did my daily newspaper drive to my local BP and it was 5:50 am, RON91 was $1:41c and at 6 am it went down to $1:38c, it goes cheapest on Monday, by Friday RON91 will hit maybe like last Friday $1:78c, ready for weekend, and most folk get paid Friday and live pay to pay, WA has a weird system and can change 4 or 5 times each week, and every week since I moved here 12 yrs ago

Yep. Then jump 40c per litre 3-4 days before we come out of it. That is the indicator I use to see when lock down will end

It's $1.39 down here. Oil companies trying to make back the money they are losing due to lockdowns.

Shell/Viva are the worst.

The BP not far from me has hit 200.9 as well today. The others are 198.9. '

I remember when it was 5 cents extra for optimax and me asking myself how important would 98 be in the scheme of things!

In case people don't know, you can get 4c off shell just by downloading carsales app on your phone, and putting an ODO reading into your profile. Its valid all the time, and it can be piggy backed with other vouchers. So carsales app + coles docket + the occasional fly buys special, you can get 12-16c off easy.

The funny part is that living in the county we have a few suburban mini shopping centres that has 1/2 dozen shops and an IGA or Foodworks.

A couple have servo's attached to their carparks that have a deal with the IGA/Foodworks stores to give 4cpl like the big boys.

It's a win win for me as it means that I can get Mobil 98 for $1.55.

The IGA's down this way are linked to United servos. Which both seem to be good value compared to the Freshly de frosted people and Coles linked servos.
There are a couple of Ampol ones further down which aren't related to the shopper docket pricing and are usually cheaper at the pump anyway.
Diesel here is 1.35, atm but I'm only buying 40% of what I previously did, due to the cafe doing far more business with fish and chips.
360 litres last 2 weeks.
