Default Project Cars Section

Hey guys, as you may or may not know, im working on a project car & im sure quite a few others are too, is there any chance of a Projects Section being setup where people with project cars can create a single thread to keep track of advice, keep others updated on the status of the project, discuss the project etc?

sounds like a good idea. as long as you can keep the 50 pages of needless chit chat out from start to finish.....(so you dont have to go page after page before an update).

I think that would be pretty cool, lol...

I am going to start mine in the AUFalcon.com section, and get it moved if a project section is setup.

Not sure that could be avoided, some projects extend over years making for alot of info to go through. I think though the greatest benefit will be to the owner of the project who can have a single point of reference, rather then searching for their own threads maybe posted 12+ months before in the forum flotsam. Easier to search one thread then to search an entire forum.

Would it be doable to have each thread locked so only the person who started it can post ?

Or do people want to have their comments listed in it like a normal thread ?

Im with you Loxxr6. The project thread should be locked, weather a mod has to be pm'd for the thread starter to update the progress would be better than the mass of comments that can clutter up the technical aspects of a build.

Maybe have a general thread in the showroom for C & C but keep the project thread simple and informative

i thought I might bump this, how about each project thread is locked except for the owner & mods, one of the best uses for this would be to act almost like a diary or journal, where owners can post the useless facts and figures they will need down the track for reference. The voyeuristic aspects are really secondary.

I think it would be good if there was a way we could set it up so that to start a thread you need admin/mod approval and once the thread is started only the original poster can reply. Have like a guest book setup for comments but keep the original thread for the progress of the vehicle.

I'd be all for it being open to everyones comments. Some of the comments in Laminges and HOTDBZ's threads were pure gold.
If the thread starter wanted something removed they could simply ask a mod.

I think this is a good idea. Basically a section where people can start a thread on a car they are restoring/modifying etc. and post updates, specs, info, photos on it. would be a great idea. I don't think the threads should be locked as its always good to get feedback and advice from other people.. otherwise you may as well just make a website for it. Asking a mod if you want a post deleted in the thread seems like the best idea.

I also think it would be a good idea for some criteria of some kind to be used for putting a car there. Not something as harsh as "ground up rebuilds only" or "must be done in the next 6 months" but it cant be a place for people to slap a pic of a stock Falcon and a wishlist of bits that never happen.

I'm all for smaller projects that are happening (theres a heap in E Series I'd have loved to see more detail on as well) but it cant be a "I've lowered my car and stuck on an exhaust" sort of project either. Thats almost not a project anymore, its more an standard item on these forums :

So, a criteria of some kind would need to be put forward, even if its "admins perogative"

Yeah good point. I don't think the guidelines should be too strict.. It should exclude people doing small modifications .. i.e. just an exhaust/lowered etc.

I'm not really sure how the guidelines could be done... I think we would get people with 'projects' but turn out to be wishlists and nothing happens with it or other things come up and the project falls through. It will be a bit hard to specify what is a project and whats not..

I like the idea in principal, but where would the best place be to have the forum?

I'm guessing the workshop would be the logical place.

You could make it, email or PM mods with reasons why your car should be on the projects section, then the mods start the thread on your car. Then if there has been no updates after a certain time, PM the owner and remove or update ? Just an idea..
When are you going to do it ? I am going to see if its there now! :hihi:

I've just come up with another idea.. I don't know if its possible or not. But I think it would be good if it was setup a bit like a livejournal. So the person can do posts and updates of their car... which would be in the main thread and people can comment on each post which would have a link and be on a differnt page.

I say keep it simple. An admin has to approve the thread..then its just a normal thread. If the owner of the thread wishes not to answer questions then they say so and it becomes a "non chat" thread.
Any non approved threads are deleted.

Real easy and simple.

I wouldn't mind adding my car to it when I have time. Would it qualify and how do I go about it?

Good idea guys.
