With Triton leading the way, Mitsubishi is on track for a sales record this year. In the combined ute and SUV market, it trails only Toyota and this success has moved it past Ford and Holden into No. 4 spot.
The brand has all but abandoned conventional cars - the last Lancers will roll out of dealerships early in the New Year, leaving the Mirage as the sole passenger car. " https://www.themorningbulletin.com.a...ety-t/3601408/

Sole passenger car? So Paj Sport, Eclipse Cross, ASX, Outlander, Pajero are all commercial vehicles?

I think they class 'Passenger cars' and 'SUVs' differently. Silly I agree as SUVs carry passengers.

Fad Lol, 4X4s have been around long before i bought my first in 1980, and will be around long after you and i are both planted so don't hold your breath....
An increasing number of people are exploring parts of Australia that a sedan only driver will never see, if your quite happy to sit in the burbs only then so be it, but don't begrudge those that have larger horizons..... (And yes we have all heard the Toorak tractor cliches)

Toorak tractors is an old "cliche" as you put it but one well deserved for the suburban dwellers. Happy travels

Why? so there is something for you to Buy 2nd hand that meets your preferences in a few years?
seems the only ones complaining aren't in the market for new cars anyway..

The Irony that they keep the Mirage, Ive viewed them as a mobile road block for years.
only the VW Tiguan seems to be worse these days. something about the people that drive them

The ASX is basically a lancer wagon. Wouldn't even class it a SUV

No real loss, I don't think. The Lancer in its current guise is a horrible car that's long overdue for replacement.

I really hope we always have sedans available to buy because I like the option there. But honestly sedans are probably the least useful vehicles on the road.
Of the 18 or so cars I’ve owned only 4 have been sedans because they are too restrictive. |

No mate, because SUV's are a waste of space on our roads. We'd like to have more choice of a vehicle to buy than just SUV's. Personally I can't wait for the hatch back era to return.

Actually didn't mind the Lancer looks wise . Have no idea what they were like to own except that I was told that like most Mitsy's they were a bit more oil burning than most.
When you look around there are still sedans and hatches being built and bought and some are not too expensive (Toyota Corolla ) , Subaru's , Hyundai , Kia , Ford as we speak ,not least Mustang...I suppose GM also as we speak . We need a certain amount of choice still including sedans/ hatches because it'd be ridiculous to just have SUV's just as it would be to just have sedans/hatches with little or no SUV's. |

An ASX pushes in front of a few other cars and attempted to get up the hill failed 3 times before putting their tail between their legs and joining the queue to leave. Funny thing was not long before the ASX failed a Statesman or Caprice managed to get up this grass hill. Good entertainment seeing which cars would fail. |

Or perhaps said owner of the ASX assumed he/she had 4WD simply because it was an SUV?

Last week i was down the local boat ramp on a lowish tide, the driver of a (insert 4cyl fwd suv) pulled their boat out with ease as their drive wheels were on dry cement, the driver of (insert rwd sedan) just spun on the slippery lower section of the ramp.
Conclusion..4cyl fwd suv's are better at retreiving boats than rwd sedans even though i've pulled many a boat out on the very same ramp with rwd vehicles without fuss. |

So by that logic a territory isn't a suv either? I mean, it's just a falcon wagon.
