Default Newbie - Questions

Hi.
I am about to buy a New Fiesta, but I need your opinion on whether I should get the Zetec or the "normal". The alloys don't matter as I am changing them, the stereo controls on the st/wheel don't matter - ICE will be put in. I am putting a body kit on it and it will be black and I noticed someome else on the forum has done this and it looked OK without the fog lights (which are illegal to have on in WA anyway).

Second question.... if I put on 17" rims, do you need to have the speedo re-calibrated etc or would it look just as good to get 16" and lower the car ?

I saw a few of you guys had changed your stereos. I couldn't find the section that said whether this ended up immobilising the car or not. My usual, reputable stereo place is very reluctant to "fiddle". Can one of you who have had it done give me some tips. I have an Alpine head unit, Alpine S Type splits, Alpine 6 or 6 1/2 inch rears which are currently in the shelf of my WRX, 2 x 12 inch Pioneer subs in the boot, Large Pioneer amp and an Alpine V12 monster amp. I am also hoping all of this gear will fit in the car ?

Are there any issues with the depth of the speaker cavity in the front doors ?

are there any other things I need to think of ?

Last question (sorry !!) ARE THERE ANY ISSUES WITH LOWERING THE CAR ?

Thanks

out:

I have the Zetec. The main thing that it has is ABS and a manual LX doesn't come with ABS. I have also changed my stereo so I want to take the steering wheel controls off.

With 17's You will have about 3% speedo error. So you will be going slightly faster than you actually are.

The headunit can be changed no problem and 6.5inch splits can fit in the front with an adaptor plate but you will need to sound dampen the doors to get bass below 100hz to come out of them without the door rattling.

I agree, whats the fiesta for if you have a WRX? Well, zetec has different trim, but with the mods your doing i guess your changing the interior, and door handles are different. Exterior, its just got colour coded mirrors, alloys, and the foglights, which might be illegal, but look great even if not on. Just add to the image.

And yea, Zetec has ABS and EBD, which the LX doesnt have.
I think thats about the only difference. Wheels mag says the Zetec ride can get harsh, but im pretty sure all suspension is the same. Pretty much a badge, which adds options on the car. Most worthwhile for the ABS...

Yea, Ghia is too oldie style for me. I think Ford has to get rid of the Ghia name... how about changing the name?

Yeah I see no point in getting the zetec if you are changing the kits and wheels anyway. ABS is good but not nessesary, same with EBD. Just keep out of trouble and you will be fine.

Or go to a driving school where you can push your car to find its limits.

Either way, get a LX and debadge it and no one else is the wiser!

Well, ABS is good... not sure if you have been to driving school, but i have been and the ABS always out performed the non-abs cars in the wet... must easier to stomp the brake and stop. (NOTE: ABS in the Alfa 166 that was there was SHOCKING. not so much the ABS, more the suspension... it practically stood on its front end with the **** lifting like a boat. Even the instructor was shocked).
BUT NE HOW the Fiesta ABS works awesome. The instructor drove my car and managed to stop in a smaller distance then a HSV Avalanche...

For what you're doing, the only realy difference is the fogs and the ABS, you will still get remote audio controls (which will end up useless) and the fogs you can change or add on the LX anyway, Alloys on the Zetec you can sell or trade, really it comes down to the ABS and if you are willing to pay for the ABS in that price difference. If willing to trade off, the LX is by far your best option.

I might have gotten LX if they had my colour.... but first i wanted the Zetec for the Red trim/silver exterior colour combo... till i saw the red and saw it was too much for a silver car and i got Aquarius... which isnt available on LX

I pick up an LX tomorrow. I couldn't justify $3k for auto/abs. Mine is Sublime in colour. I have abs on my fairmont, never used it, yet. Touch wood!!!
LX has what I need. Why spend more, if you don't need too?

Obviously there's no dynamic difference whatsoever so that's an easier decision to make, unlike with the Focus.

Thats right Matt, and with the Focus range everybody knows the CL is the pick of the bunch.
Ahem, I'll go back behind my wall now........:.
