Default Toyota TRD aurion? Much to gloat about?

I was at wollongong with my f6 at a work do and some guy amongst a few people couldn't stop talking about his Toyota TRD aurion. I didn't say anything but he went on and on and on.. My f6 was there and I was trying not to laugh

Apparently they have 240kw and only 440 made. He said everyone tries to run him but he don't bite as he knows he would destroy them. Then he went on about superchargers being better than turbos and Toyota being better than anything in that price point (quality wise)

Are they much to gloat about? I thought they stopped making em as they were too expensive and the hsv/fpv used to destroy them for same price? Wouldn't even a stock ba xr6t flog it?

What do we know of them?

more like only 440 sold. Not 100% sure about the trd aurions but I remember the trd hiluxes were a massive fail. Way too expensive for what they were. Funny thing is...the market would probably except them now....as opposed to a few years ago when they did them!!
Shoulda asked the bloke what its like to drive a washing machine with stripes

Did they even get a power upgrade with the TRDs?????

edit......just looked them up......62K gets you 6.1secs to 100 and 14.2 1/4mile
I think they look great tho.(dark red one at least) They've aged well and would probably look good now rather then when they released them.

He lifted the hood and it had a red supercharger under there. The belt was to the left, top mount but mounted horizontally

I couldn't see if it was intercooler or not?

looks like they had a small eaton supercharger....almost 300nm with a auto six speed. Interesting they chose to use the same Dunlop sport maxx tyres ford uses!

they're pretty lame, but no point in harshing another mans buzz.........

rear end looks a bit like the E series GTS and R8 actually, the exhaust treatment

was the first of that look which is pretty popular amongst Suzukis, kia's and other embarrassing cars

F6 is in a different league!

F6: 0-100 5.1secs
1/4 13.4
Power: 310kw
Torque: 565nm

Aurion: 0-100 6.1secs
1/4 14.2
Power: 241kw
Torque: 400nm

As said above f6 shouldn't even bother! Have to admit though they don't look to bad at all.

I've read that apparently they're really bad for torque steer.

Pretty sure Toyota developed them with the help of Prodrive, so potentially the same engineering effort as what's behind the F6. I think they didn't come with an LSD either, something a FWD fan I knew said other FWD fans would love by others would hate. I think they were supposed to have a lot of equipment to make up for the price too.

Torque steer on a regular 200kw aurion is bad enough, imagine what its like in this thing.
It'd go well in a straight line though, possibly as quick as a BF XR6 turbo.
To me,this car is just more proof that Toyota have lost their way in modern years. They were asking $70k for them drive away too!

Prodrive built the TRD Aurion's and Hilux's at the same factory as the FPV's lol

I reckon they look alright but in terms of performance they're a bit meh. Wouldn't buy one.

I do however rate the TRD Hilux, again mainly for looks.

Magazine acceleration tests as we all know are garbage, pay no attention to them unless the cars were run on the same track on the same day with the same driver and the same ballast.

TRD Aurion can and will do a mid 13 second pass, I've seen it done. Remember, a stock V6 Aurion is already a mid 14 sec rig. FG F6s are 12 second cars off the showroom floor. Even the XR6T sibling gets right into the 12s, the best stock F6 time I've heard of was one of our members doing a 12.2 at WSID. So yes, the F6 is in a completely different league, which shouldn't be a surprise given that even the BF XR6T won a comparison test against the TRD Aurion if I recall correctly. Some of the magazine acceleration figures being quoted in this thread are so far off the mark it's not funny.

If the guy likes the car and is showing it off, let him, no harm done. He's like us, a motoring enthusiast. Probably got away with it with his missus saying 'its only a toyota darl'.

Eh if you like your car there's nothing wrong with bragging about it. Most similar Euro's and Jap cars munch an F6, doesn't make the F6 any less of a car.

The problem with even the 200kw Camry is that is way too much power going through the front wheels. I have got stuck with them as hire cars because to rental weenies they are considered equivalent to a Falcodore.
Torque-steer is a *****, and at the slightest hint of dirt or water the TC kicks in.
Also, I don’t know what other improvements they might have made to the TRD, but the basic “Aurion” handles like a barge.

The car is a very nice car TRD aurion.

No harm loving your car as we all do

But to brag about it to others? I think everyone has a tolerance level, they can hear it and hear it and hear it but at some point it becomes just too much.

Like someone bragging about their footy team

I think they looked pretty good. The standard aurion goes pretty good too for a front wheel drive. If they are priced in the same league as a XR6T or VE SS they would of been a real contender in the market

Racetracked one when they were released, they were okay, but boring, sounded terrible, there must have been 42 million psi trying to get out of that exhaust pipe the way it sounded. Very little torque steer at track speeds, was tight track, AHG track in WA, caned it hard. Impressive thing I guess, but still a bit of a yawn. They also had a problem with a few failures after launch, can't remember if it was whole engines of just the blowers that were failing, but it was a bad look.
