Default OMG saw a YENKO!!!!

OMG saw a yellow YENKO S/C last night down Princes Hwy in Noble Park. Firs time I have ever seen one in person. Was left hand drive and all. Sounded a treat! It looks exactly like this http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0001_large.jpg

I doubt it would be a genuine YENKO considering the rarity (especially here) and also the big 6 figure value of them.

Not something youd be driving around Noble Park in at any case.

Why wouldn't it be?? Might just be the perfect time to go for a drive and attract a lot less attention then in the middle of the day.

Its a Camaro by Yenko;
PRESS RELEASE:

Westminster, Calif. – (October 28, 2009) General Marketing Capital Incorporated (GMCI) announced today that it will present its official 2010 Yenko Camaro Prototype to the public in the OER booth (# 23795) at the 46th annual SEMA Trade Show in Las Vegas, November 3-6.

The company will present the modern Yenko almost 44 years to the day that Don Yenko's Corvair Corsa was officially recognized as a Class D Production Competition Car by the SCCA.

The official 2010 Yenko Prototype began its life on a 2010 Camaro SS platform. The vehicle then underwent several significant upgrades including modification to a "Phase I" Yenko Camaro Supercar. Preliminary highlights and specifications of this powerful vehicle include a high performance 600hp supercharged and intercooled LS-based engine, Tremec six speed manual high performance transmission, Hurst short throw shifter, 6-piston big brake package and Magnaflow high-flow cat-back exhaust system.

Plans call for three Phases to be available to take the fifth Generation Camaro from ordinary to extraordinary. This "Phase I" Prototype from GMCI maintains the unique retro appeal Yenko enthusiasts are so passionate about, while including significant performance upgrades to the stock GM specifications and keeping the car affordable. Phase II and III cars will have higher output engines and even more suspension and handling upgrades.

Additional Yenko branded upgrades to this prototype vehicle include: the Yenko stripe package, official emblems and badging, retro-styled 22" Yenko billet aluminum wheels, Yenko leather interior package featuring Yenko Super Car (sYc) embroidered headrests, Yenko/SC sill plates, Yenko/SC embroidered floor mats and more.

Nearly 45 years ago, racing legend Don Yenko embarked on a mission to build a race car that could effectively compete in the 1966 SCCA racing season. His inspiration resulted in the development of the Yenko Stinger, an SCCA race car based on the Corvair Corsa platform. It was in the last quarter of 1965 that Yenko's plans for that vehicle came together changing automotive history forever.

Originally, the 60s era Yenko car was a special order vehicle, designed and built by Don Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, PA. Don Yenko used the Central Office Production Order (COPO) program, a program GM used for fleet vehicles like police cars, taxi cabs, etc. to special order the vehicles and then modify them into some of the most powerful vehicles available. Today, an original Yenko is one of the most sought after Camaros in the world.

What would indicate that it wasn't genuine??

I could believe it.

And I highly doubt the suburb its in depicts its credability to be genuine or not.

Mate, I saw the **** end of a khaki green Jensen Interceptor vanishing into a driveway in Seaford on Sunday last, nearly ran fair up the date of the car in front trying to get a better look.

First one I've ever seen on the road. Magic

It was driving around with a few dato's and rotaries. It was the real deal, well if it wasn't it was pretty much identical to it. I only saw it driving through Noble on Princes Hwy. Everyone was getting a look at it.

So you tell me if you had a 6 figure car you wouldnt take it out for a cruise??? I know if i did I would.

theres a gunmetal grey one of the jensons going about adelaide as well, we had it in the workshop i work at for about a fortnight (though its only the 383ci model)

It is a shame but that is the reaction that MOST people give with MOST genuine cars...

I'm out all the time in with a genuine XY GT, and the FIRST question i'm always asked is "Is it genuine"... I feel like saying 'unless you are hallucinating, i'm pretty sure that the car is genuinly here...'

Same with a guy i know who has 2 x genuine Shelby GT350's... and same question every time... Is it a real Shelby...

There are real diamonds out there in the suburbs...

It is true that there would be very few actual Yenko cars in Australia, same with the AAR hemi cuda's, or Plymouth Superbirds, but they are out there...

Just realise that when you see these rare beasts, (even if they are replicas) they are something special and that you don't see them very often...

I hear ya, I'd give a major organ or a leftie to own even a well built replica, let alone the real McCoy.

I've got a few DVD's of aussie and yank muscle cars from the early days and unforutantely thats as close as I am at the momemt from having one parked in my garage.

Yenko also did Nova's and other brands typically all big blocks from what i've read, and from what i've seen if you have to ask if it's original you can't afford it.

You do see some on ebay in the states from time to time.

Builder in Cairns has a couple of these.
ALso CJ mustang, Roadrunner, Daytona + other drool worthy specimens . I saw these in his shed back in about 1995ish.
The Yenk was taken down the 1/8 mile at innisfail!

Yep the Yenko's did the Camaro's, Chevelle's and Nova's from about 1967 onwards i think.

Same as Baldwin Motion. They were enterprises not too dis-similiar to what HSV is to Holden.

There was a Yenko on that meccon auctions and they described it as the
poor mans version if you couldn't afford the real thing..... I have it saved on the hard drive on the set top box so I will view it again and see if it was a real yenko or if the car itself was a yenko mock up
