Just wondering how you hold the steering wheel as you drive. Most of the time I hold it at the quarter to three position with my thumbs along the rim. I've seen some interesting ways as I run around the place, makes me wonder how people control the car if something happens.

Quarter to three or ten to two when I'm in excess of 130kph otherwise an easy elbow on the door and three fingers.

Right hand at 3 o'clock. Mine is a manual, so I usually have the left hand on the shifter, and rest it there.

Two pieces of string does the trick for me. One tied to the left-hand side of the steering wheel, via the gear selector and the handbrake. The second one is tied to the right-hand side of the wheel via the door grab and the seat fore/aft adjuster.
I find this method very useful out on the open road at cruising speeds, however in the city I get a lot of people that notice me and ask why I'm tugging between my legs when driving. I don't know why they ask, it makes driving more enjoyable if anything. |

If i'm feeling serious it'll be 10 to 2. Otherwise it's right hand at 2, or left hand at 10 (depends how tired my arms are, and if i'm driving a manual). The 6 and 6:30 people are the ones who scare me! -Stu |

9 to 3, if I'm cruising, 9 to 2 with arm on the door.
I've never seen any form of racing where the competitors drive 10-2, one arm in the middle with the arm out the window, or both hands near the bottom of the wheel. Quote:

PS. Have you ever wondered why some people drive around with their left hand or elbow on top of the passenger side seat? How the hell would you maintain control in an emergency? : |

When I'm just cruising, right hand wraps around the grip at 4 oclock (ED boat wheel, not the 5(?) poster) and left arm resting on centre console and hand on gear knob. When I'm feeding it through some nice backroads, hands at 2:45 and 9:15 unless shifting.

I have left hand aroung 2 or 3 and the right between 10 and 11.
I never put my hand on the centre or the 'handle bars' of the wheel as it's way to dangerous and you have close to no control.
