Okay, uni has finally finished for the year. School is out in a couple of weeks and I'm sure many of you guys who are working have some form of summer break, even if its Christmas Day and New Years Day only. For me, work doesn't get much more than about 50hrs a week when I'm on uni holidays so that means I need something to keep me busy. Answer: its summer project time! At the moment I'm pulling apart my old thrustmaster steering wheel to see if I can replace the force feedback motor, maybe do some modifications. I'm going to need to build some mounts for the new Logitech Steering wheel when I buy it and I've got some small ideas for the car.
However, I'd love to hear what other guys are planning as projects for the summer. When you're not working on your beast, what are you working on? Could be something you've already started or just an idea in the back of your mind. Tell us how it goes, photos would be great too. You never know, someone else might have just the right piece of advice for ya or you might give someone else an idea and motivation to start something themself.

Mine'll be spent on the Fiesta. Been working in some odd jobs here and there and hopefully by Summer's end I'll have a Fiesta with some number of mods on it.

I get 1 week so it'll probably be spent making a start on pulling the car apart and just kicking back.

Won't be working on my car as I have no money :(
I'm working on making a program for the V8Supercars. Just entering the scores and such, nothing really special just to develop my Java GUI. I plan to write it out to a file but eventually want it to be a front end to a MySQL database. Baby steps at the moment. So far I think I'm just about finished writing the classes and about to design the GUI. |

I get 1 week off between xmas and new year. My guess is I will be painting the house, my preffered option will be working on the car, either way a few slabs will be made short work of

So many projects on the go at the moment.
Paint around the back deck. Asphalt 80 metres worth of driveway. fix up the fencing around the place. build some yards for the horses and get ready for cattle coming in. build a few 3-sided horse shelters before it gets too hot. Couple of gates need replacing at the moment. Finish off some of the gardens as well. I am leaving the bathroom renovation to the professionals though. Problem with all of this is that I have no time off ... not even across Xmas. I have the odd day here and there ... between now andf the end of January I get 2 or 3 weekends off ... which is nice.

Fixing up my back shed.. Converting it some how into some sort of workshop with shelves to store things...I have pipes, header flang's engines and parts that are not stored too efficiantly...So I have better place to store my welders, drill pres, grinders etc.. While I'm at it I'll put new wood floor in over pavers & make floor LEVEL...
Then add some extra power outlets... On the car? I'll be fitting new painted door handles and lifting front suspension as its on its lower setting being Bilstien shocks all I need to do is change circlip...

Get a 2nd job or 3... 21 hours a week isn't enough now that i'm not at uni 5 days a week...but the moneys pretty good.
Take up kung fu. Go to the gym and get ripped. (currently 6'4", 85kg, quite broad shouldered/decent "v-shape" nice starting block) Find some books to read. Find a girlfriend. (9/10 are taken, the other 1/10 aren't worth it or aren't interested) Practice my bass some more... or even just dust it off. Might go on a road trip, quite unlikely though. My main problem is motivation, once I start something I'm unstoppable... it's getting starting that's the tough part, the cbf factor generally wins. I've done nothing but study for the past 20 years.. Better start on something soon. |

I'm starting on a FC LTD that I just aquired. I need to have it on the road by end of june at the latest, cause my Dads bringing the family over from NZ to celebrate his 60th birthday! Have to source a few little bits and bobs, and put it all together on the quiet, so it's a surprise for him. He owned one years back (ex- govt car) and has a soft spot for them. Between that, the kids and work, I'm in for one flat out summer!

Seriously though, I hope you meet a great woman who appreciates your interest in cars. All the best, GK BTW, my summer projects, in order of priority. 1. Change diff on the SR 2. Change front wheel bearings on the SR 3. A number of motorbike rides, road and off road 4. Sand and paint TV cabinet 5. Small concreting job near front fence 6. Install new side gates I wonder how many of these will actually get done? I'm tipping the top 3! LOL!

Wow, there are some awesome projects coning out from this. Would be adding finding a girlfriend to my list but my mates have all recently hooked up with members of the dodgy 1/10th and their plight isn't encouraging.
When you do it for a while, you realise that 50hrs a week isn't all that much. Last year, i spent 6 months doing 40hrs Mon to Fri then 17hrs over the weekend and you get used to it pretty quickly. Btw, read my first post carefully, i don't always get 50hr weeks at work. Over the uni holidays, most are about 30-40 hrs but 1 in 3 will be about 50hrs. Personally, I'd love to spend the holidays on my car but $$ and age (don't think insurance company will like me making too many mods...) keep me fairly limited. I gotta say though, best of luck to all of you! Oh Mechan1k, my mum will want a few of your horse shelters.

I've been working during the uni holidays, and have been doing work on the car in my spare time. Next I'm planning to do some painting. I want to paint the wiper cowl gloss black and colour code the door handles

Installing water tanks...
One at 2000ls at the side of the house, so I can wash my car without getting sly looks from the neighbours : , and a 4000l deal down behind the back shed to supply the dunny and washing machine so I can get the rebate. Should keep me occupied for a while :
