Default Holdens aloytec v6 made in aus ?

Are or were all the holdens alloytec v6 engine blocks cast hear in australia.

There was some problems early on about the money i thought. and ION in Altona abandoned the engine block project in 2004.

Are the blocks still casted in Mexico.

The heads were made in wingfield South aus.

A mate asked me if the holden v6 was totally made in aus. i said the falcon 6 is but i am not sure about the holden v6 block casting.

Are the toyota aurion v6 engines fully imported hear.

the alloytecs were but the sidi isnt.
bare block and heads sourced then fitted with local ingreadiants (sidi)
same with the toyo i think.
the falcon head is sourced but fitted with local ingreadiance aswell.

All the alloy V6 block and heads are imported from Mexico.

I think the Toyota V6 is fully imported.

Falcon 6 cylinder head is cast in Mexico but machined and assembled with the rest of the engine in Australia.

There goes my "my engine is completely Australian, yours is a crappy old Buick" argument towards all the Holden V6 bogans out there.

Australian designed and built though. Which can't be said of the others.

Doesn't really matter that one part is cast overseas.

More of the Falcon motor is Aus than the Holden. As BossXR8 said, the block for the I6 is cast here, and the head is cast in Mexico, but machined and assembled here. I'd call that a %20 non-aussie and %80 aussie mix. Not bad!

All manufacturers source parts from all around the globe. Most "american" car in the US is ...Camry :-)
Falcon is australian designed and so is New Ranger but generally these days are truly multinational and produced by multinational companies. How far do you take this national parts origin debate is up to you - but say heads may be cast in Mexico ,transported by Norwiegian shipping company ,machined by german machinery and assembled by japanese robots...

Head is not Mexican

The benefit to a nation of all productivity is measured in value added (GDP)

Think of the difference in value of a chunk of raw alloy vs the value of a finished head (big difference)

Compared to say the shipping/importing industry where you would compare the value of the head sitting in mexico vs the the same head landed in Australia (small difference)

This is (one of) the reason(s) why manufacturing is such an important industry

Cams are a bit like Vegemite then. Cheaper for an Australian supermarket to purchase retail from a New Zealand supermarket than direct from Kraft. That includes two lots of freight across the Tasman Sea.

Will be a 100% Japanese design though, with a large majority of the parts being imported you'd have to assume, being a generic Camry engine made all over the world.

The heads were cast here up until BA. The AU had a very high Australian content, 80% or more?

I doubt that any "Australian-built" engine or gearbox built in the last 25-years has all Australian parts.

I read that the AU had more Australian content than any Holden, ever.
That was a surprise. BHP baked steel bodies and all... (that was only 14 years ago, how times change...)

The cams used to be made in the engine plant until they went the hollow cams in the BA, when production shifted to China. They have never made I6 cams outside of the engine plant until they were moved OS.

Just thinking, the V6 engine plant at Fishermans Bend is designed to be packed up and moved in relatively short time...

I wonder whether Ford could do similar for the Duratec I-4 so FoA could make 2.0 and 2.5 engines for the region.

I've spoken about this before but the I-4 can be built in 1.8, 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 litres, maybe then Ford Aust could play
mix an match NA and Ecoboost combinations with locally assembled Mondeo, Kuga and S-Max/Edge
A local 1-8 EB and 2.3 EB could be just the ticket for most of those vehicles, maybe a base 2.5 NA engine.

Expensive infrastructure but if it adds to FAPA in terms of engines and vehicle exports within the region
a plan like that might fly..

Alloytechs are used around world or are they specifically built for the Commodore? Sorry for my ignorance, but I thought the Americans used them as well?

Thus ford I6 is unique to Australia isn't it? Has the bottom end changed much from the EA-BA?

No matter how you interpret it it's bloody sad when we have to get excited or proud over a percentage.....

Anyhow, i would rather take more interest in a 100% aussie hurdler than a silly engine....at least this one looks like a winner.....

Yeah that's true mate :( I guess as things get cheaper overseas manufacturers must look to those cheaper alternatives to keep the costs down. It is a worry but in this world of people wanting the cheapest possible product to help slash costs of living, it is inevitable that local product will suffer as a result.
