North Wagga flood evacuation

Those who don't evacuate are risking death, it says.
The SES urges people not to delay, because they could become trapped and need to be rescued as roads close or become congested.
Wherever possible, stay with family or friends, it said. If not, make other arrangements or attend one of the following three evacuation centres: North Wagga Public School, Hampden Ave, North Wagga Wagga (until 10pm); Senior Citizens Centre, Tarcutta St, Wagga Wagga; Wagga Wagga police station, Tarcutta St.

There sure is a lot of water. I am in Lockhart and had to endure ladt nights wall of water. Wagga will be worse this time than the 2010 flood.

It will be, Burrinjuck is pumping out 250,000 Megalitres per day at this point, expected to reach 10 metres by Tuesday Arvo here in Wagga, Levy for North Wagga is 9.9m, so theres a bees dick in it at this point

Thats crazy amounts of wzter being released. For years i watched prime news watching the dam capacity at 50-60% thinking "that will never be full again", now its been over 100% twice in 18 months.

Like I said, it will be interesting. Our levee bank at the farm had at most 40cm left in it in 2010. If it tops that, I would guess about 2/3 of our farm could potentially go under.

This is about 45km west of Narrandera or 25km east of Darlington Point. I would say the Sturt highway would be close to being cut at the Tubbo Station homestead if it is higher this time. In 2010 it just went over the highway there.

Anyone want to buy a house? Check my sig. It might have waterfront views in a week or so. Hopefully the Darlington Point levee holds.

yes it`s amazing, someone fairly high up in the political scene a while ago was saying we will never have dam filling rains again ,even watching it on the box it looks pretty scarey stuff,

Thanks mate, just home from a bloody long day moving family and friends out of the area. It's not looking good, the levee bank will hold 9.9m back but it is expected to top that within the next few hours, we have a few spots flooded already and we were running out of sand bags before we left. Will be interesting to see how it is when we wake up.

Think there may have been a bit of flooding there but nowhere near as bad as Wagga. River just hit 9.7m in Wagga (at 1700), levee is 9.6m. Here it comes.

Just got an evacuation order for Wagga CBD sent to my mobile as I used to live in central Wagga.

I think you will find the CBD levee is 11m. The predicted peak now is 10.9m

Central Wagga is not at risk of flooding

The Murrumbidgee River is expected to peak tomorrow at a height of 10.6 metres which has caused concern among Wagga residents that the CBD will become inundated.



But SES spokesman James McTavish said that there was no concern for the CBD at this stage.



The main levee is capable of holding up to 11 metres of water and this requires a significant volume of water above the predicted peak to be exceeded.

Flood Warning Number: 30

The Murrumbidgee River at Wagga is expected to peak near 10.90 metres around
9:00am Tuesday morning with major flooding. This prediction is slightly higher
than the 1974 flood event.

The Murrumbidgee River flood peak at 9:00pm Monday was upstream at Eringoarrah
where the peak level exceeded the 1974 flood height.

Major flooding is expected downstream of Wagga Wagga.

Predicted River Heights/Flows:

Wagga Wagga
- peak near 10.9 metres around 9am Tuesday [6/3/12] with major flooding

Naranderra
- reach 8.8 metres on Thursday with Major Flooding
- this will be confirmed as the peak when upstream peaks are observed

Darlington Point
- reach 7.6 metres around 11/3/12 with Major Flooding

- reach 8.5 metres around 15/3/12 with Major Flooding

Not looking good. Wagga CBD has been evacuated (2nd time for some because they were all sent there from north wagga) and there are reports that North Wagga has started to flood. Will have to wait and see in the morning but 10.9m is the expected peak and the main levee around the CBD is 11m. CBD not expected to flood but evacuated as a precaution.

im in the cbd at the moment, finished packing everything irreplaceable up and just put everything valuable in the shed up high. Dont have to be out of here till 6 so im sitting out the front next to my 4wd hilux with a few neighbours deciding what we are going to do.

Hope everyone up there pulls through these floods ok, I heard the Murray was flooding upstream at Walwa but I doubt it will be felt very much down in Albury as we are below the Hume weir that will absorb most of the flood surge as it isn't all that full at the moment. Nevertheless stay safe guys hope it all ends soon.

so where is the nearest high ground/safe area from Wagga? is the safe area road accessible clear if you guys up there want to visit relo`s or something out of out of the danger area??

Ive got a few friends down there who have been moving all there stuff last night............. There predicting the levee to not hold which is what will cause all th flood. Hopefully nothing to serious happens

The part of Wagga south of the Sturt Highway reaches up high into the surrounding hills, however I don't know if there are facilities to accomodate evacuated people, and if central Wagga flooded, that higher area I believe would be severly isolated for quite a while.

Anyone know where the evactuation centre(s) are?

Mount Austin High School and Kooringal High School are the evac centres, Wagga High is full.

Premier has just announced natural disaster zone for Wagga and is putting together the State Disaster Council to determine further action.

Levee should hold around Wagga CBD but North Wagga is under, have seen photos this morning.

And I cannot believe all the idiots standing right on the levee's edge looking when all it takes is a second for them to be drowned if it does go

Levee will be fine at this stage, it varies in height all around the city.

Have just got pics of family's houses in North Wagga, water going in through the windows. It is higher than the 1974 flood.

The pic I got from my friend who is there and lost her house in north wagga it doesnt have much more to go before its over.....
