Mate, that should polish out, failiing that, give it a light buff with something like swirl remover. And don't take your car back there unless you can take your service advisor over the car with you beforehand, and show him there are no scratches.
Maybe the pictures don't do it justice but that although inconvenient, doesn't look too bad. I once had a toyota which came back with a dent in the bonnet. They refused everything too until I gave them a legal letter claiming damages. They then offered to replace the bonnet. F**kers.

I am not going to repair or buff the damage. It's not my responsibility to fix. They caused it , then they can fix it. By fixing it myself, there is then no evidence of the damage.

Get the dealer principal involved, don’t lose your cool and stick to you guns.
I’m having a similar problem with FPV over some dodgy paintwork. Keep in their ear or they will conveniently forget about it. Cheers, Danny

The service manager is saying I wouldn't have seen the mark because of the dust on the bonnet.. I certainly saw the mark even with the dust as soon as it was driven out their workshop and so did my wife. They must be blind.. :

yeah definately stick on them, but stay cool calm and collected. If you are getting no help from the service department definately go see the big boss of the dealership, because thats simply not good enough.

This happened to a friend of mines AU fairlane Ghia, black in colour, years ago at Gorrells. They resprayed the car after putting a scratch down one side.

Actually it looks bad when there is no sunlight shining on it, there is no dust on the bonnet it's polished and you can even see the clouds reflecting off the duco !!!

How do you think the damaged occured?
What would the mechanic have been doing near that spot to do the damage? If you beleive they did the damage, stand your ground, but you may need to somehow show the manager how you think it may have happened. I used to work in a holden dealership years ago, and we would allways get somebody trying to blame us for their mistakes, or for marks they had not seen before and some cases we believed they were trying to get us to repair their car even when it was not our fault. People think the dealership is a endless money pit and can afford to fix things all the time. We had a policy, that if a mechanic or any employee marked a car, it was to be brought to our attention and it would be fixed for the customer. We got into the habit of checking customers cars for damage and taking note while the customer was there, it sure cut down on the amount of acusations

I had a windscreen replaced under warranty it had a imperfection in the glass, when I picked the Ute up I noticed a chunk of paint out of the top frame of the door, called over the Service manager straight away, they repaired it at there cost as it was done by there windscreen contractor who admitted fault but never reported it.
Now my new car goes to Strapp Ford, when its dropped off they go around the whole car with its owner and a inspection report is filled out on any marks and dents. This saves a lot of confusion on who damaged what, when picking up your car.

Here’s the main picture that shows the scratch. I’ve resized it to 640x480.

To see if the mark will buff out, simply put a bit of spit on your finger and wipe over the mark. if the mark disappears when wet it will buff out. If you can still clearly see the mark or it turns white when damp it requires a spray job. If it looks like it can be buffed out, do so instead of new paint. New paint will be more likely to show.
Sorry Mate, good luck Baz

Did I see a post on NotGoodEnough.Org from you Towle ? There is a similar situation on their website.
Dealerships have cars going in and out all day - damage does happen from time to time but their attitude towards you sucks majorly....you have photographic evidence for christ sakes....sheeesh. Where is the customer service ??????? My old man now does a walk around with his dealer and airport valet parking after a similar thing and no he didn't get it covered - denied denied denied. The dealer I used to work at used to get people coming in with these complaints but they used to come back weeks after their service and blame us. The best one was a guy who blamed us for his car getting a puncture 2 months after a service....he went off his rocker....asian fellow who's gasp of english, and common sense was rather poor. We fixed his puncture just to get rid of the angry little man. One guy came in with a few choice words written on his boot lid and thought that we had done it(!) ....service manager asked if he had upset anyone lately.... They should at least try to help you with this scratch......their attitude requires realigning. |

Yes that's me, why not give them a serve? Maybe public naming them will get them to act without further haste to fix the damage they caused. I rang and spoke to the Dealer Principal today, he said he will look into but was reluctant to give me a time frame when he would give me a decision aprart from ASAP.. yeah right. So I insisted on a time frame of 24-48 hours to review my complaint and see the photos of the bonnet before and after coming out of his workshop. So he said 24 hours. If not response by tomorrow C.O.B then I am lodging my complaint with the Consumer Trader & Tenancy Tribunal -$30 fee . Quote for damage is $758.19 --the whole bonnet will have to be resprayed !! Quote is in writing. MVRIC's advice is write the dealer a letter of demand and go through the small claims court. They don't have jurisdiction over damage. Did say the dealer has insurance for any damage that occurs within their premises to customers vehicles. They have a duty of care to ensure my vehicle is returned in the same condition as it presented to them. |
