Tyres for the AU

Just wondering whether any AU owners have had Hankook Ventus tyres and whats your opinion. These replaced the Falkens I had. These are the 2nd hand wheels and tyres that I bought off Maurie 18 months ago which are shot up front. So I replaced them with a set of Hankook Ventus today. Only the fronts at this stage. Will be doing the rears after I get back from OS. I will be lucky to do 500 k's in the next 5 weeks. Going to keep the best tyre from the rear and purchase a 19" rim to act as my spare.

Tyres wore fairly evenly, but the fronts were scuffed on the inside. I do have a camber kit so this really did help, although my pressures could have been higher than 40 and I would have got better wear. If they had worn more evenly, I think my tyres wouls still have been good for another 5,000 clicks, maybe more.

I know 18 months life out of a 2nd hand set of 19" rubber is not bad.

So I'll have a brand new Dunlop 3000 tyre on an 17" AU2 rim, used only once, never driven on (Car had a flat in the garage, so I put the spare on while I took the flat in for repair) for sale soon.

Ive got Ventus Sport K104s all round on my ute and I have found them to be excellent. The rears (255) were a bit pricey but they are bigger than the front (235) which I thought were pretty well priced. They are REALLY good in the wet, best rubber ive come across for a ute. Only thing I found with them is they give out a bit of tyre noise at speed but other than that they are great.

Yep, got them on the rear's and Wanli's on the front of mine. No comparison. The K104's are excellent, grippy and wear exceptionally well. The Wanli's are a POS that drum very badly, squeal like a stuck pig and make wet weather driving an interesting experience. I'll be putting them on the back this weekend so I can triple their wear rate and get a set of K104's all round.

Thats a good effort Bucky, my SP3000's are just at the point where they get wobbly going round corners. So in the next month, off they go, and up to a bigger size rim. Only 18's though, Im not made of money like you :hihi:.

I wish. Come see Vince in Canberra. He has some good deals going. You won't be dissapointed.

So the Ventus us a pretty good tyre. i never researched tyres. As long as they have air in them and go round and round, then I'm happy.

I had the hankooks on my vy ss i had before the au :P
They are the best tyre ive ever had but to expensive for me to have these days lol

Got them on my rims courtesy of LOG. Even as worn as mine are on the rear (inside is scrubbed) they are great in all conditions.

If they make them in 19's Toyo Trampio Guwn i have them on my TE in 245/40/18 and they are a great tyre

i have bob jane xenons. they are ok. but my rears are worn down in the middle. and ive only done 7000 kkays on them. yay for not checking tyre pressures to see that 40psi was a bit too much lol

pressures wont help but those bob janes are made by marshall tyres ..need i say

thanks for the heads up, can anyone tell me some prices for the hankook K104?

might ditch the dunlop SP3000s POS in the wet and wear badly

I think my 235/45/17s were around the $160-$170 mark. The 255/45/17s i have on the rear are nearing $300 each

I had a set of Fulda Excellero's on mine, absolutly amazing in the wet just like driving in the dry. Now I have a set of SP9000 and they are scarey in the wet compared to the Fulda's, have had a few nervous moments on these where I would not have come close on the Fulda's. The Dunlops are pretty decent in the dry.

i was told kumho... but i had them overinflated, thus wearing in the middle more than the edges.

they come out of the same factory but have a different name ...just think dawoo...barina etc

Agree with that, my SP's have worn ok but once they are down a bit, the wet can be a bit tricky.

In 225/50/16, you should get change from $150 per tyre. If you go an "odd" (less popular) size like 215/60/16 or something, expect to pay more.

In 18s, you can get the Ventus K102 or K104 for around $220 mark.

Got Toyo Transpaths on mine, good grip dry and wet, no noise unlike the Kuhmo Esctas I had previously.

Bucky can't go wrong with the K104's,had them on one set of rims can't remember which but they were great !

I am on the second set of 245/45 18 on my TS 50, Always been happy with them. However after reading the Tyre Test in the latest wheels they didnt fair too well in the 18" size, not too bad in 16's tho
I thought they wore and gripped better than the SP9000's i had on the TS before (and now on the ute)
And at around $300 a tyre, not bad value

I've got a set of nankang 245/35/19's and am suprisingly happy with them. with the Bridgestone 235/45/17's I had previously traction was a major issue, in the wet I was dangerous. With the new tyres I've being pushing it harder around corners and round abouts and have not even come close to bracking traction. Best of all I can now tack off from lights in the wet like normal

Yeah, I've heard they're **** thats why I'm suprised they seem alot better then the bridgestones I had. I guess thats really saying something about bridgestone. Mind you my cars extremely gutless so the fact that the nankangs are working ok dosn't say much either

lol mate you have a point but I think the worse handling is once they are at the half mark onwards.
The Bridgy's must have been a bad pattern type as I have had SO1's which are fantastic and from memory all HSV's use the brand.

The Bridgestones I had were a non directional extremley hard compound tyre. in the dry it took stuff all to break traction, but in the wet it was 100% impossible to take off from lights without spinning the wheels

I am going to be changing my Nankangs ... they are average.

I was going to get the Ventus K104s next ... but at the moment the Maxxis MA-Z1s are on special in 235/45R17 format ... and apparently a very good tyre as well.

Bob Jane has them for $135 a piece from memory .... cheap for a good tyre.

I might go and buy some now and sit 'em in the shed till I am ready for a new set.

Matey those Maxxis are nowhere near the K104's.....
