Default Does this EF XR6 sound very similar to a Skyline? ***VID***

EF Falcon takeoff
EF Falcon Revs

Maybe its just me but I reckon it sort of does high up in the revs.
They do share the same engine layout afterall. ;)

What do you guys reckon?

a little, not quite as raspy in the higher rpm, it still has that TugBoat® sound the EF/EL's 6's got

Meh, Same as my old EF used to sound. Low and farty down low, and a robotic metallic whine up top end. I think its the quality (or lack thereof) of the video's sound that could make the two cars sound in any way similar...

Yeah it does, especially considering that the RB20/25/26 rev a hell of a lot higher than the falcon six.

my car sounds like a skyline too, not surprising from another straight six though.

They don't sound remotely like each other IMO. Just sound like the regular run of the mill E-series 6 with an exhaust.

Sounds like it has a stuffed lifter to me! In the rev one when he starts it up you can hear the lifter rattle and at the end you can hear it again.

All I can hear is an annoying tapping sound from (one of) the HLA's.

When was the last time they changed the oil..? lol

The lifters actually need to be replaced.
I've tried changing the oil, using lifter free mixture, etc.

Just the usual wear and tear associated with an old car. :nutsycuck

Thats true...lol.

So its your car? If the hydraulic lash adjusters in the i6 are anything like the hydraulic lifters in the Windsor V8, then they are pretty easy to remove, disassemble, and clean.

Apart from the tapping, it is a pretty tidy sounding EF

falcon sounds boring and drony, big exhaust just aplifys the drone, is a a make do replacement for getting a racing car sound. skyline sounds quite meaty going up the revs, a lot more race car like, but at normal driving revs, sounds like a boring 2l lancer with sports exhaust (ie amplifier :P).. but i cant stand turbo pop off valves, thats the dumbest noise gimmick these 18yo ricers install to their turbo jap cars.
Bmw sixes sound the best, they have amazing induction noise, never mind the exhaust. my old 3.0l twin carb bwm motor from 1973 sounded heaps better then the ford 4.0 i now have, the ford also has extractors and sports exhaust. the bmw is amazing up in high revs, a pleasent screaming noise (from the engine, not exhaust! and at 6400rpm redline in my old one) and no harshness, very smooth, and even at low revs you can can the whooshing sound of the air being sucked into the engine.
the ford sounds really boring in comparison, only thing it has is volume. give the ford sixes heaps of revs, and engine sounds really harsh at the higher revs.
One last note while talking about sound, the subaru wrx is just plain annoying, it sounds like an out of tune engine, and then they just plant massive amplifying exhaust
on it, to make it sound like a trying too hard to be a v8 sound. next time one drives passed you, close your eyes and notive how it sounds like a like 900cc sportsbike more then anything.
351 clevelands and 350 chevs own all these but, even at 40km/h an hour, and a worked engine at idle at the lights.... most of the modern v8s, like the ls1 sound drony like fords 4.0 and holdens 3.8 pushrod. the 5.0l holden sounds super with a supercharger installed.
