Default Australian Savages!

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to get in contact with anyone that knows about examples of the Cortina Savage (or Perana) specifically in Australia. I'd like to know some historical information such as how/if you could order one through Ford back in the day or if they were supported by Ford Australia. I'm hoping to use this information to support to an engineer the concept of the v6 Savage Cortina as a base for a v6 conversion of my own.

I was under the impression the Perana was based on the Capri and was a South African car.

Is this a link to the car you were thinking of?

http://www.africanmusclecars.com/ind...na-perana-mk-2

This is for the Basil Green Peranna cars: http://www.perana.org/

I haven't heard of any distribution of these cars through the Australian dealer network.

Boxy351 might be your man for this info: http://www.fordforums.com.au/member.php?u=2905

Yep that's one of them. In SA they had the Perana and in the UK they had the Savage. I was under the impression you could 'Special Order' a Savage in Australia through a Ford Dealer...but I'm not sure how to confirm or refute that.

Perana - Capri Mk1 with 302 Windsor V8
Savage - Cortina 3.0lt Essex V6

See: http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au...mk2_savage.php

And the Essex engines use across vehicles...

As far as I can tell, they were an aftermarket (new vehicle) conversion in similar vein to the Basil Green Perana's. A number of UK people have created replicas (just check the for sale adverts).

I'm pretty sure the Perana was the South African Mk11 Cortina with a Zephyr V6.
Could all use the same name though....

The 'Perana', as we know it in Australia, was based on the Mk.1 Capri and fitted with a Mustang 302 V8 developing 281 bhp. It was built by Basil Green Motors in South Africa. Around 500 units were built and there are a few dozen of them in Australia. It was never sold or serviced by Ford Australia. The Cortina Savage was a Mk.2 Cortina built by Jeff Uren in the UK. Again this vehicle was never released in Australia. Any examples of these 2 vehicles found in Australia would be personal imports. None were ever imported and sold by Ford Australia. Ford Australia did fit an 'Essex' 3-litre V6 into a Mk.1 Escort as a prototype vehicle though it never saw production here in Australia. This car still existed down Maffra way, in Victoria, up until a few years ago. Terry

An after thought! There is a Mk.2 Corty with a V6 owned by a member of the Cortina Mark One Owners Club CMOOC here in Victoria. It has changed hands within the Club, but I can't recall who currently owns it! Try contacting the Club at http://cortinamk1ownersclub.com.au/index.htm
