Default Running a new areial

Hi

I am thinking about getting rid of the radio antenna to clean up the lines on the side pannel. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I could stealth the antenna? The BA one is intergrated into the rear windscreen, so a similar idea sounds too expensive. I was thinking a mobile phone antenna, but have no idea what the reception would be like.

Edit: Or would hiding the areial in the A pillar work? Or just in any hidy hole that can be found under the body?

Cheers

hey mate i work at repco
for $25 you can get this arieal .. it has a signal booster in it and it runs to your demister grill... i have one in my car and there is no modifying required.. and all cables are the right length...

it is made by Aepro.. the part number is AP170

hope that helps

Well I hardly use my radio, and I had to remove the aerial when i did my hidden wiring, so this could be the easy way to get it back for when I want it.

i just pushed my aerial down because it was stuck up. i NEVER use the radio because i dislike it but i have tested the radio and i still get decent reception with the aerial all the way down. however there still is the black 'O' in the gaurd with the aerial inside, are you wanting to get rid of the black 'O' all together?

yes it works well.. there are 4 wires to hook up... 1 goes to the demister grill, 2 goes to ground, 3 is the Aerial plug and 4 goes to +12v from the ignition.. to run the signal booster.. and thats all there is to it

takes about 10 mins to put in

I wanna get rid of the black 'O' completly. But for now I'll just push it down and do all the pannel work in one hit.

I picked it up today. Can I hide it out of the way under some of the trim and still get a strong signal? I don't really want it sticking on a window but from the looks of it I should be able to hide it under some trim.

So to wire it up I just need to splice it with the 12v from the ignition and the + from the demister? Anyone know which wires they are?

I have one of the crappest music collection, so small, so I use the radio.

you should use a test light to find the 12V+ side of the demister. You don't 'have' to hook the AP170's up to the demister grille, they work fine without it. It's an option to gain a bit more signal. If you do mainly city driving, just stick it on and wire up power and earth.

They are really good antenna's btw.

I fitted one the other night had it installed for 2 days:

Yeah they work well for FM ONLY and I would not call them a complete replacement, although I do have mine hidden mounted near the driver side rear seatbelt under the rear shelf carpet and I have tinted windows, also I did connect it to the rear demister.
However they work well when you have nothing, and are better then nothing, but I can't get any AM (not that I care).
