Default Cracking open tail lights

Just wondering if anyone has ever opened up a tail light before (genuine or aftermarket) would it be the same as opening BA-F headlights where you heat them up so you pull the clear outer lens off?

Im toying with the idea of pulling an aftermarket set apart and painting the internals a different color.

Just for info, I have a pair of AU3 tail lights, clear side indicators & 1 headlight if you want to play with. Giving them away for free or they're going into the bin.

I think they are glued too. Having a look at my spare pairs there definately is no black glue like the headlights. But if I could work out how to crack them that would be tops

It is not the sticky type gkue you can pick off like the front lights

I had a crack in mine and used model airplane glue to fix it

Will probably shatter if you try to pull it apart

Thanks very much for the offer Bobman but I don't have a need for them. EV1LXR8 on the other hand...

The lights I sort of like only come in chrome and shadow chrome, I'd like to paint the inside black.

If they're not stuck together like the headlights then yeah they'll most probably crack on me if try to pull them apart!

If only the flamin' manufacturer made a black version!!!

I'd say the manufacturers paint them silver or chrome to get the most out of the light, as the globes use the reflected light from the rear of the unit.

If you painted them black, whilst it might look cool, you'd probably only see a very dim light from the rear.

If you want to see the effect go buy a K-mart torch and paint the reflector black

I get the torch logic, but there are heaps of aftermarket tail lights with black insides though.

I dont see any reason why the ones i like couldnt come in black

Ah, gotcha. The actual light part is still reflective but has a kind of black mask around them.

Hey guys after doing a search of FF I stumbled across this:

http://fordforums.com.au/showthread....hlight=altezza

eXi7w0unD was able to pull apart and paint the exact style of tail light I was considering (using the 'oven' method.

I ended up buying the tail lights in 'dark chrome' and fitting them. They look great as is and I won't be painting them.

Thanks anyway to everyone that contributed.
