Default What brake fluid?

Getting my new brakes put on this week so I just need to know what brake fluid I should get and how much of it I'll need. I want decent stuff not the cheap rubbish. Thanks peoples.

I use Nulon Dot4, and have also in the past used a synthetic dot5 brake fluid (sorry, can't recall brand). As long as you use dot4 or dot5, you should be right - just go with a name brand (ie not SCA).

Nulon is good, I like their stuff. Dot 4 or Dot 5 it is, thanks JC. I should have known you would have the info on this lol.

If you are on the northside there is a workshop that will do a brake fluid flush/refill for FREE, no hidden costs/obligation etc. I had mine done 12 months ago and they recently sent me a letter saying it was time for my FREE 12 monthly brake flush. I'll get around to it soon but I'll pay them for it this time around.
Look up Aussie Auto (I think that's what it's called) at Lawnton.

1 litre of Dot 4 fluid.

i used Castrol something when i did my brakes.

Cheers, will have a look next time, but I have to change th pads and rotors this weekend so I might aswell give it a flush at the same time.

When I go for the full flush option I usually buy 3 bottles. I just keep flushing until all the crud and old fluid is out of each line and then when it's nice and clean, I concentrate on the bubbles. I end up with about half a bottle left.

I've used Shell or Castroln mostly, but I may give Nulon or Penrite a run next time.

I use one of those cool one way bleeding gagdets which keeps the pressure on the whole time.

I use AP racing Formula DOT 5.1 & have done several track days & plenty of road driving & always been happy with it.

I went with Penrite's Super Dot 4 Race Formula which has a boiling point of 305*c. We'll see how it performs.

dot 5 if i remember has higher boiling point but absorbs moisture quicker so must be replaced at 12 months dot 4 is 2 years i think someone will correct me if i`m wrong.

i had it *** about dot 3,4,5.1 are hygroscopic they absorb moisture, dot 5 is silicon based and does`nt but can leave pockets of air and moisture because they dont mix , i new there was a reason i did`nt use dot 5 for an explanation heres the link........................http://www.mestiso.net/forums/index....&mode=threaded

Dot 5 is silicone based fluids & aren't suitable for regularly driven road cars or those with abs etc, not to be confused with 5.1 which is a more conventional style fluid with a higher boiling point etc.
