Default AU V8 into EB, Possible?

I know that this has probably been asked before, but, is it possible to put the Windsor V8 from an AU Falcon into an EB Fairmont?

I would be guessing so, as it wouldn't have been too different than the windsor that was an option on the fairmont, except for a few refinements.

I am asking this because I was thinking of buying an EB Fairmont Ghia, and getting it resprayed, (full respray, not just body), which would involve removing the engine. I would get a manual conversion done as well, (since the engine would be out, and I can't stand auto.). It also got me thinking, that if the engine were already out, (due to the engine bay being sprayed, then I could have a V8 installed in the place of the I6.

Now I'm sure that it would cost a lot of money to get this all done, but I was just wondering if it were possible. (Originally I thought a Boss 260, but we have to be realistic here).

Eventually I will get the engine supercharged, so I thought that the AU Windsor would be a better choice for modability.

Also on a side note, does anybody know how much it would cost to get the AU V8 and manual gearbox?

It would work out cheaper to buy a EB Ghia V8 and just upgrade to the explorer manifolds and GT40 heads from the AU.

Just put EB-EL extractors on it.

The engines are the same, within reason. I know someone will come in here jumping up and down ranting on about ignition, heads, manifolds and what not, but it's still the same 5.0 Windsor. You're better off finding an EB 5.0 and buying a set of heads, MAF, TB and manifolds, or at worst case getting an EB/ED 5.0 wreck and swapping all the bits over.

If you do go down the AU path, one thing to remember are the differences in wiring. AU is coil pack, EB is dizzy, so you will need to either install a dizzy or covert it to run AU ECU, which WON'T be fun at all.

AU's run GT40P's and cant use the stock E7 Headders.

MontyV8 (Phil) was going to install a whole 200kw AU2 motor however the block had a SEVER knock, so we put the heads manafold TB and 70mm Maf onto his EF short block. For headers he used ELGT/EL2XR8 headders.

Hell yes it was. Oh well the EF goes pretty damn well now with explorer+Ported GT40P's+Extractors and a twin 2.25 system.

You're basically right John, the motor has been returned and the refund is bieng worked out.

Kenaz - If you can get an AU XR8 motor cheap, like Phil was able to (Although the bottom end should have been fine) then putting a low KM AU motor in is a good option, compared with fitting the heads/manifold to a 150,000km+ motor.

Thanks for the input guys.
I've been looking at Fairmont Ghia V8s for a while now, and they all seemed to be fairly high kilometres. That's why I thought that it would have just been a good idea to chuck an AU V8 in there instead. After all, the engine will get taken out either way.

I'll probably just get a rebuilt EB V8 and have that put in it's place. Sounds like too much stuffing around otherwise.
