Just wondering what peoples experiences are with the 2.7L petrol hilux?
I'm going to be towing a 2 tonne Dodge ute on a trailer with one tomorrow. Curious if the little ute/motor will handle it?

We use 2.7 Hiluxes for work utes. They'll tow it. Won't be fast, but you won't kill it either.

Been ragging my work one for a few months now, havent killed it yet! Those engines are bullet proof! They move on pretty well whilst empty, havent towed in mine, but had about a tonne in the back and it still motors on ok.
You'll probably be flat chat to get to 100 though!! lol |

2.7 petrol wouldn't pull the skin off a custard, they go alright unloaded but as soon as you put a few kgs in/on the back they stop dead.
V6 is the way i'd go. |

Id be checking tow rating first, whether the engine is capable is irrelevant if the vehicle isnt rated to tow it
Hiluxs are only rated to tow 2.25 ton, so you will be well over that. If you are over the tow rating the vehicle is no longer insured and no longer road legal.... Get a Patrol or Landcruiser to tow the thing (or better yet a F250) Youd be safer driving an unregoed F250 than a Hilux with nearly 3 ton behind it.

Thought I'd report back at how I went.
I was lucky enough to be wrong on the motor and ended up getting the 3L Turbo Diesel. Obviously had no problems whatsoever with that combo....well getting the Dodge on the trailer was interesting lol But alls well that ends well!
