Interesting article that charts how Ford Australia has changed, while also being exactly the same.

" In 2023, the Ranger ute represented 72 per cent of all Ford sales in Australia. Throw in the related Everest, and that leaps to 89 per cent.

They’re such important cars for Ford Australia, it’s chartered a dedicated ship to ferry them from Thailand to Australia.

No other brand in the top 10 for 2023 had such a heavy reliance on a single model.................................Rewinding by 20 years reveals a similar situation with the Falcon in 2003, it accounted for 73.8 per cent of all Ford sales...........................As was the case in the Falcon’s day though, it’s still struggling to turn the incredible momentum of one model into sales across its entire range."

Imagine back in the glory days of the Falcon, if you uttered the prediction that in the year 2023, the top-selling vehicle in Australia would be a 4-door 4X4 with a tub on the back.

I'm sure most would have laughed at you.

How times have changed.

Umm Isuzu? How about 100% of their sales relying on a single platform.
Btw there's a class action imminent also due to the poorly designed front suspension which is causing tyres to scrub-out in 20k kms.

why bang on about petrol? its power and torque that matters, and who cares how that's generated?

Yeah, I don't know why the story put so much emphasis on diesel engines.

Sad but true. Ford has some great cars on offer but the people running it have a complex trying not to focus on one model for core turnover.

They cant even get F150 right, people have lined up for them and Ford forgot to tell RMA which ones were sales priority units, just laughable.

Traditionally, petrol engines were seen as the fuel economy villains compared to virtuous diesels
but now with all the emissions drama and higher maintenance costs, maybe the Ecoboost engines
are worth a shot…….of course, the moment you lean into the throttle, power is addictive and
the sworn enemy of the fuel gauge……


Now where was that dual cab Falcon Ute or was it a Territory with a tub…LOL (j/k)

for sure. Diesel transit is great, but the ecoboost focus is more responsive and fun (I know, comparing a van to a car is daft)

but I'd take an EV over both if it was priced competitively
