Default Ford RTV shocks

HI guys, what is the life expectancy of your product, and is there anything for the RTV ute?

Hi Stangboy,
We have now been selling the Ford kits from 2012 and still waiting for some customers to return dampers for service. We have customers who have now done nearly 100,000Km's on the kits with no issues. The dampers are very robust with so far no leaks. We did have a clamping plate issue with a batch a couple of years back but part from that, the Shockworks Ford kits are going strong:-)
Unfortunately, we have not developed anything for the RTV, so sorry mate:-)

Hi Brett. There were 58 RTV owners on the forum at last count. I'm at least one of them that wish there was a quality shock absorber purpose made for these RTV utes.

Having a Falcon (ute) and Territory item already surely it couldn't be that much more development involved

OK so, is there anyone who could drive to Shockworks in Monbulk so we can check out the lengths of the dampers we would need to make?
We already have the mounts so would involve a body length change and should be fairly easy:-)
To be honest I need so sell at least 10 sets to cover the development and tuning costs so if we have some interest I think we can do it guy's!!

The adjustable kit would be the same price as the Ford ute which is $2000.Not sure about what height but will be able to achieve the standard factory heights.
What heights do the RTV guys want???

I can't speak for others, but I would like about another 1" or 2" lift, i believe that's about all the adjustment in the standard arms.

i would love a little lift and a spring that can handle the v8 (we are normaly 50mm lower than the 6cyl to start with so 25/40mm over the 6 hight would be very nice)

ps unless you do layby i wouldnt be in the position to buy outright

Hi Raptor,
A couple of things you could do for me, is to measure from the hole centre to the top of the damper body, to give me a compressed length. Also to measure the rod length would be great. Apart from that we have all the top and bottom mount dimensions.
If by chance you could measure the rear damper for open and closed length from centre of the mounts would also be handy mate.

Can you raise the height with just longer struts, don't think so, I think you just adjust the load on the strut giving a firmer or softer ride.

Brett, the only RTV shocks I have are on the car, and I'm not certain they are genuine ones. I have been trying to find someone with some genuine shocks off the car to measure, but haven't been successful so far.

I could attempt to measure what I have on the car up front, I'd be prepared to take the rears out. But that will have to wait until it's drier and warmer outside than it currently is and I find the time.

Hi Rob,
No stress as we are in the middle of the development with two different cars so can't do much in the next couple of weeks. When I get these models out the way, I will have time to confirm lengths and start the drawings. Should be easy as it is just the lengths that change:-)

There is a really good chance the front struts are this much longer.

We will be sticking to the original lengths of the RTV dampers as much as we can. The RTV rod travel seems to be the same as the Falcon range with a longer damper body, so we will just do the same with our adjustable kit.

Hey Futura,

Design has been made for the RTV and production starts early next month so we will have forst stock in March.
I am very sorry for the delay but we are a small tam and Ford Ranger tuning has been a priority to get finished by the end of last year.
I will post photos of the RTV adjustable dampers and advise when we have them ready for sale mate:-)

Thanks Brett, can understand your other project commitments. RTV owners are lucky that you have spent the time to develop an aftermarket adjustable dampers.

I might be interested in a set later in the year, as finances won't permit it right now. My RTV might only be worth a few grand, but I drive 50 000k's a year and I reckon my backside's worth it.

excuse my ignorance, whats the benefit of these shocks at $2000 a set?
I have got one quote here for $620 for a set (front and rear) not installed.

I do realise that they obviously must be better, but for what purpose is the cost to benefit worth it?
(like pulling large loads).

The dampers we have developed so far, for the standard ute offers much better handling and pretty much stops the diagonal pitch in corners. The ride quality we have been able to develop is also more relaxed and reduced the bad shake and decay after impacts the ute is known for. The dampers are 12 stage adjustable and with heavy loads, you can adjust the damping forces to stop the floaty feel when the ute is loaded. We found some big benefits when while towing. The dampers are fully rebuildable and we can service the dampers for $80 each very quickly.
We had our very first set of Ford BA back for service after 98,000Km's and where in perfect working order but the customer wanted our latest developed codes which is now in production.

Are there differences between the 6cyl and v8 dampers? When I find the right v8 for sale I plan to upgrade - would I be able to swap a set from the 6 to the 8?
