Stupid (lucky) P Plater Idiot

Last night on Londonderry Road, near Sydney's Penrith, Police started to chase a P Plater in a VR Commodore when he was clocked speeding. Once the chase peaked at 160km/h Police radio terminated the pursuit.

5 mins later a call comes over for a car into a pole, on the same road, we were heading down to assist the Penrith Highway Patrol car when we heard that.

We raced down to the accident and saw the above image of the Commodore. 30 metres away lay the P Plater on gravel cradled by a local resident ensuring he didn't move his body incase of spinal injury.

We rocked up and helped out, the kid was only 18 and lay there crying out in pain over ants biting him.

Ant bites were the least of his worries.

He was one lucky individual, the RTA and Police harp on about speeding being dangerous and in these circumstance the P Plater lost control of his car for hundreds of metres and the black tyre marks were evident on the road. He is lucky he survived and extremely lucky he didn't hit another car or a house possibly killing someone else.

He openly wondered why the Police switched their lights off, we just said he was driving too fast and dangerously.

Hopefully some life long injury will remind him of how stupid he was on his one night of glory.

Londonderry rd isn't the smootherst of roads in some spots either ... and narrow as well.

Plenty of P-plate idiots out that way ... I get them tailgating me all of the time ... I just let them go and speed off into the distance.

There was recently a P-plater killed near me on Slopes Rd near Nth Richmond ... lost control in the wet ... was going way too quick for the conditions and slammed into a pole .... was on Boxing Day I think. I feel for the family ... was leaving his gf's place that evening as well.

I don't know why so many locals think they are Brock in the Hawkesbury.

Roads may be empty, but they are so narrow and 80% of the roads are lined with gravel, dirt and ditches. So many have no shoulder at all and are buckled and potholed.

mechan1k, I worked with the fella who was the first on the scene of the prang with that P-Plater on Slopes Road. It happened right before Christmas. I met with the family on Christmas day, it was horrible to think they lost there young son, who had so much potential right before Christmas.

Its the hardest part of the job. Seeing the trauma that can be caused from a car accident.

We can joke about how fast we've managed to reach in our daily rides, but the faster you go, the quicker events unfold, the less brain power you have to respond to these events and who knows where you'll end up.

Drive to the conditions and drive to YOUR car's and YOUR own ability. Plus drive with other drivers in mind, don't tailgate and leave the 3 second gap.

The gap will either help you survive or save you from a neg drive ticket when you rear end someone.

I wasn't sure if it was just after or just before Xmas .... I just heard it from someone ... and then saw the flowers on the telegraph pole.

The corner is a nasty corner he came unstuck on though ... I have only lived in the area for 18 months ... and some of the roads are not the best and need to be shown respect out my way.

I hear so many of the different things that go on in Western Sydney ... as I have one borther in law that is Blacktown Area Command ... and my other brother in law is about to go into the academy this year as well.

It's just a shame that he'll go to court and end up with a $500 fine and a driving ban for 3 months.
whereas it should be 90 days prison and a 10 year driving ban at the very least.

I would go one step further and ban him until he grows up. Perhaps when he is 35. He has run from the police once and got away with it. He will wear this incident like a badge of honour. He will be fully sik tuff with all his little play mates. He needs to be removed from our roads and give the decent "P" plate kids a chance to claw back some credibility.

Police ask him why he drove at that speed, "I wanted to see how fast my ute could do" said P plater.

Under hoon laws his car been confiscated for 48 hours and fined. But police are looking at suspending his liscence as he only had for 3 month!

Typical commodore driver bull$h!t!

When I was about 8 I lived in the US for a while, they had mustang HWP cars, I remember commenting to our local host "nothing would get away from that"... he replied by saying "there aint' nothing faster than a two way radio".... I had never though of it like that.

I've driven my Borther-in-law's VR Commodore ... i am surprised that I haven't hit a pole with it ... it's got to be one of the most dangerous cars on the road. Even driving it like a granny it was scary to say the least.

No wonder so many people die in them

Shame he survived, but lucky he didn't kill or seriously injure anyone else. I just hope he learns from this and is now scared to drive too fast!

he is very lucky indeed.

but the scars are left with the emergancy service workers.
This driver will tell his mates how the event unfolded, and he will get bragging rights.

he doesn't realise that not only does it effects his family, but it effects the people who try and save these peoples lives. ie the police, ambulance and firey's, if need be, the surgeons that stich them back together after an incident like that.

sure its fun at the time to the young and young at heart and we don;t realise that a little faster won;t hurt anyone till its to late.

If you want to race your car, do it on a track day, not in the streets please.

we all have loved ones we care for and don;t want anything to happen to them. I want my little brother to come home late and safe then not at all.

Hopefully this guy will learn his lesson.

Back when I was on my P plates (young and slightly more stupid than today) one night I had a 'street race' against another kid from school. I got up to 120 in an 80 zone and the cops saw us and I pulled over and the other guy ran and got away. I coped a big fine, learnt my lesson and have never done anything so stupid again.

The next week at school I was talking to one of my class mates about it and he said to me most people who hoon around like that either get caught or wind up dieing on the road. Last night I heard that the bloke from school, the same guy who 'luckly' got away that night some 7 years ago had died during the week from a road acident. He never did learn his lesson.

I used to tell my kids driving is something like school , if your in 1st class you can't do 3rd class tests because you've never learnt the stuff , so far I haven't heard anything bad about them (news travels quickly in a small town) only thing I've heard is the youngest is "a very careful driver" ( Red P's ).

As bjr22n says "do it on the track" . I bought an old racecar (bit of a crapper) when I was 20 to do just that & got my thrills that way , I'm 50+ and still love speed , but I don't . Been there , done that & have got nothing to prove .

This reflects on EVERY other P plater... Drawing even more attention to any spirited driving....They should learn in 1970 Volvo's etc.. Learn to drive and not steer...
BTW his car would / could be confiscated for three months and over $1000 storage fee.. Even if its NOT his car.. In this case its undriveable so it won't happen...

its things like this that just show we need drivers ed as a mandatory subject in all schools and that students have to pass before being able to obtain their license also more events and areas where these guys can go to drive under controlled conditions in their daily drivers to test the performance and learn more about the power of their car for a donation, not the epensive prices we pay to have a bit of fun at a distance from home. we need the support of the government, race car drivers, and transport authorities in order to do this though. maybe then we will start seeing less carnage on the roads, and people having more fun behind the wheel.
probably wont happen though as the revenue raising will start to dwindle
