Today Jason (EA2BA) and his friend Steve came over and we fitted King springs lows with monroe shocks. I'd had enough of the old suspension, and the new stuff is great! It handles well, and the bouncy ride is now gone. The springs still need to settle a bit, so the front will sit lower than it does in the photos. I'm happy with lows, I'm glad I didn't get superlows because I wouldn't get out of my driveway (with lows, my towbar was a cm off scraping at the slowest possible speed). To get the old springs out, we dropped the diff, but still found with maximum wheel travel, we still couldn't get the old ones out! They were that long we had to use spring compressors to do it! Anyway, here are a couple of photos. I'll take better photos after the springs have settled, and I've washed the car
old vs. new

Looks a hell of a lot better, definately one of the first things an E-Series driver should do. The wheel/wheel arch clearance on these things are ridiculous!!
How much did the shockers cost you? I put King Springs in my car, but still have the stock shockers. Pretty bumpy, but not as bad as some other cars I've been in. It's good to feel the road a lot better. |

I bought the springs and shocks together for $350. They are all second hand, but haven't had much use. I'm not sure how much they are individually brand new though.

It certainly doesn't feel raised. It's going to take some getting used to how much closer I sit to the tarmac. I used to sit up in the air. It now almost feels like a sports car

I agree with Pat. You haven't lowered it at all. There is still lights coming from between the top of the tyre and bottom of the wheel arch...lol
Nice job mate!

LOL. I was just waiting for the comments saying I should have lowered it more. I'll be getting a scorcher front bar for it soon, and since it nearly scrapes already, I'd hate to see how it goes with the scorcher bar (since it doesn't tuck under at the bottom like the standard one). I'm happy, plus it is no longer one of the highest cars in the club.
Plus another advantage is my suspension no longer squeaks!

Looks heaps better Dezza!
These days I wouldn't settle for less than Ultra Lows, but back in the day I used to have 'Lows' in my first EA so I can sort of see where you're coming from. One day you'll see the light

As I've said, I can't go any lower without making it impossible to drive in everyday situations. Sure, if I'd lower it further, it'd look even better (until I rip my bumper off, trying to get out of my driveway), but I really can't give away practicality. Handling was the main priority, and that's what it does, it now sits flat around the corners and feels controlled. The famous bodyroll is basically gone. The simple fact is, it is my car so it was my decision, and I stand by that decision

lowered but not low enough to **** me off everytime i go in a driveway. currently if i lower my car even by 5 mm i will scrap on every speed hump at tafe. they are stupidly high speed humps :( |
