where's Mr Streetmachine (blownvn) or whatever he wants to call himself. the mainline dyno figure for the GT-F isn't that much different from the original wheels test, but the GTS seems to have lost a fair chunk of performance. so who was doing the fiddling again??

interestingly, the GTS result is more in line with the trend set already by private owners. most in the know already knew the GTS was only around 320rwkw on average.

Clearly they forgot to engage the over boost on the GTS.

So those figures don't account for overboost ?
Working on 320rwkw what does that equate to at flywheel ?
Cars were manual ?

so long as the intake temps were under control, that would indeed include 'overboost'.

Both cars were auto's

Both cars confirmed completely factory and had a qualified independent engineer in attendance.
Ambient air temps, tyre pressure and strapping all equal.

Isn't the GTS is still quicker over the quarter mile.

How does the GT-F dyno against the r-spec

The GTS is still more powerful, because power figures are read at the flywheel, not the treads, as has already been stated the GTS has more beefier compononents that sap more power than the GT-F.
Unless someone takes the GT-F Coyote motor out and dyno's it at the flywheel we will never know what it actually makes, we can estimate it though.

It's pretty amusing though, considering the XR8 next year will be reborn with the same spec engine as the FG GT, could you imagine being a HSV owner forking out all that money on a brand new GTS, then pulling up to the lights next to a FH XR8 and then sitting side by side all the way to 100 and beyond
Even more embarrasing would be the lower spec variants of the VF in HSV's stable getting whopped by a factory XR8.

so far, that has been the case, although a recent test only had them separated by a tenth of a second.

the GTS would be easier to get a good time out of it consistently. as an overall package, it is a better car.

The GT-F took a few runs too get up to optimal temp.
From the magazine:
"For the transient overboost to be effective, it runs off manifold temperature, so we need consistent temps of about 50 - 60 degrees", GT-F project manager Justin Capicchiano said.
"The GT-F is always between 351 and that additional 15%, but how much depends on the conditions. So you're always in transient overboost, but you'll never go below that 351kw figure, which is why we put 351 on the side of the car".

Bahaha that must've been hard for Wheels to swallow. Awesome!

Wonder if Dowling will amend his previous articles stating the GTS as being more powerful.

They also did a comparison between the GTS and GT-F but for some reason tested an auto GT-F against a manual GTS

Figures below:
GTS Manual
0-100 4.5
1/4 mile 12.6 @ 190.6 km/h
80-120km/h 2.4

GT-F Auto
0-100 4.7
1/4 mile 12.7 @186.7 km/h
80-120km/h 2.4

So they are basically the same for power and acceleration just the GTS has it in the handling department.

Seriously it cant be hard to source two manuals....and to think they get paid good money to come up with this crap.

Its all a ****ing contest, Ford can still claim being more "powerful" but it seems the GTS will be quicker I believe because lets be honest they spent more on width and tyre quality.

The real test is similar tyre dimensions and compounds, both manual if doing dyno runs and both auto when chasing an ET.

The price difference between them leaves GTF owners with enough coin for width and rubber. Ford ran out of money, but still sold all 500. Has HSV sold that many 80k commodores in the same period? Ever?

Who cares, they’ll still be pretty close on the street with both having their good and bad days and nobody will be getting out at the lights to check what type of transmission or tyres you’re running.
It’s just comes down to a matter of your weapon of choice, at least for those who can afford them.

GTS has a broader power and torque curve, which will be conducive to quicker times, plus the better rubber helps.

There's no denying the gts is a better all round package, and so it should be with a list price of 20k more, and pretty much a generation newer.

The gtf is what it is, the last of long and proud line of v8 muscle cars, that regardless of what the other brand does will always be a GT.

That kind of pedigree can't be bought, no matter how good your marketing team is.

NO INTERCOOLER and only 5 Litres, that makes up for any additional power loss of the gts. Keep on Howling Coyote. Love one in my XB coupe, but would love to see one in an XE with a Phase 6 body kit.

If EVO Magazine was conducting this test, it would have some credibility. But since it was conducted by Wheels

And in FOAs case, are extremely grateful....

Beyond that, this is nothing but a schoolyard ****ing contest that probably makes both Ford CO. & Holden CO. collectively facepalm.

I seriously do wonder whether Wheels is run by a bunch of 12yo boys still living in the 1970s watching Bathurst re-runs.

There is a difference between pride & just plain ol' dumbass.

Trap speed of the Auto is down 186.7 km/h compared to the manual GTF of 189km/h as tested by EVO. While the Wheels GTS trap speed of 190.6 km/h is near identical of the manual GTS tested by EVO.
