Post NSW Police Choose Core SRT8

"The mystery of exactly what vehicles will replace the NSW Police fleet of homegrown highway patrol cars has at last been solved, with sources confirming the Chrysler 300 SRT Core and BMW 530d sedans will begin replacing the Commodore and Falcon from next year.
While an offical announcement has yet been made, sources close to the police have described the imminent injection of American muscle and Germanic grunt as “a certainty”.
While total numbers are yet to be confirmed, CarsGuide understands the model mix is expected to be 70 per centBMW 530dsedans and 30 per centChrysler 300 SRT Cores, and with the numbers on order expected to be in the hundreds.
NSW Police wouldn’t be drawn on the make-up of the 2018 fleet, with a spokesperson telling CarsGuide: “The evaluation of NSW Police Force vehicle fleet remains an ongoing process and for this reason it is not appropriate to comment at this stage.”

I would like to see the charger here. Im not a fan of the 300s but the charger I would consider. So many variants in the US too. From AWD 6cyl to track weapons (700+HP) from factory. https://www.dodge.com/charger.html

Seems an obvious choice for now
But they should be able to make to with the 5.7 Hemi
I'm not sure a cop car needs 350kW and 637Nm sipping 13L/100 at best.

I also read somewhere they were going to change the platform for the next 300c to FWD mid 2018.

Hilarious.

The 300's will spend more time off the road being repaired than on the road.

Of all the cars available no other country has seen fit to use 300's, I wonder why?

Ironic -is it not.

Lately driving my FGX XR8 the most interest I have been getting is from BMW M series sedans and those BMW M series SUV tanks, with them tailing and shadowing me , accelerating up to get to the side, then going back and looking at the rear end etc.

Years ago common Ford Falcons would be ogling M3s etc. Now all I see is BMWs with very very few FPV 6/8s or the FGX XR8/Sprint 8s around.

So yes- once these BMW diesels flood the market they will be seen like the Falcon taxis of yesteryear.

No they were going to move onto the Georgio platform they use on the Giulia. But by all reports that has been scrapped.

Look at the price of used Beemers now, BMW almost loses resale value as fast as a Falcon so it'll be nothing new.

Also, we have BMW up on a pedestal here in Australia. They are the Falcon, Commodore and Camry's of Europe.

We don't get the base models that are sold in Europe.

The 1 series and all the even-numbered model designations, devalued the BMW brand already, what else is there to lose ? BMW no longer stands for exclusivity, refinement and power as it once did, it now seems to be the symbol of working-class debt and keeping up with the jones'...

Why are you taking that list as gospel when the Australian portion is not even complete?

Doing a quick google image search shows 300 in a number of different police liveries

Agree, probably the worst branding decision made by BMW Australia.
In chasing volume to compete with Mercedes here in Australia, they are going to forgo the brand equity they have and very much devalue the it and resale values. It will definitely have a flow on affect.

Mercedes and Audi would be laughing.

This is the old perception of here.
Europe is flooded with MB Taxi's - has it stained its brand, don't think so so whats the diff BM gaining more volume here.
Once upon a time MB's BM's were so expensive and never had small versions ala Hatchs etc...here, for we've been were in the bubble, not anymore.
Long ago the white collar well paid people normally only had them, Docs, lawyers etcetc but every man and his dog has one today.
Thats de valuing them in the first place.
Look at the depreciation from new after 3-4yrs - near half the price.
None of the Euros hold up as they once were full stop imo.

Chrysler have only sold 209 300's this year. Australia and NZ are about the only RHD markets they are still sold in, now that the brits have canned it. How long can it really survive at those numbers?

True, but devaluing the brand won't affect any of us personally, just them.
I would be happy for HWP to use Porsche GT3's and devalue their brand as long as I can pick up a cheap ex-chaser.

ARTICLE
How much longer will Chrysler’s original gangsta sedan and only actual car remain in production? Scuttlebutt suggests when the LX platform gets replaced for 2021 on an Alfa-shared architecture, the 300 might be put out to pasture. That’s sad; together with the Charger, FCA’s LX sales currently dominate the full-size car segment, outselling GM (Chevy Impala and Buick LaCrosse) by 17 percent last year. Oh well.

1.5 years ago I was at Gosford Court house and there was this SRT in canary yellow, lowered, big tyres, very black windows and out of it popped two steroid beefed heavies.

They were going to court, and it did not seem for a fences dividing act neighbours dispute either.....

Seems that this car, along with AMG G63 (what an ugly monstrosity that one is) is popular with certain of the untaxed elements out there
