Default An Enzo bites the dust!

http://www.news.com.au/entertainment...8-7485,00.html

Comedian totals $1.85m car
March 27, 2007 02:09pm

US comedian and actor Eddie Griffin has walked away unscathed from a crash that totalled a rare Ferrari Enzo worth $US1.5 million ($1.85m) during a practice run for a charity race.

Griffin was was practising for a charity race to promote his new film Redline when he drove too fast around a curve at the Irwindale speedway in California and smashed into a concrete barrier, the Associated Press said.

Video footage showed the red sports car screeching before it bounced off the barrier with heavy damage to its front.

"Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can't drive," said Griffin, referring to one his past films, afterwards.

The film's publicist, Wendy Zocks, said Griffin was OK.

"He walked away completely unscratched, but probably a little shaken," she said.

The Enzo was owned by the film's executive producer, Daniel Sadek, whose exotic car collection was featured in the movie.

Sadek said the car was beyond repair and that he had "mixed feelings" about the wreck.

"I'm glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed," Sadek said.

"I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there's people dying every day. A lot of worse things are happening in the world."

Only 400 Ferrari Enzos were ever produced, all between 2002 and 2004.

Griffin's credits include the comedies Undercover Brother, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and its sequel, Date Movie, and Norbit.

Huge Impact yes, but surely thats repairable? Might cost $500,000 (and return flight to Italy) - But surely it's fixable.

It'll buff out.

:disco: I've never heard of this so called 'comedian' but I'll bet this car crash would have been one of his funnier gags. He doesn't even look as if he has a sense of humour.

No way. There seem to have been quite a few Enzos written off. Some of them have ended up split in half, they have crashed at such speed.

Looks like he understeered straight into the barrier... interesting how the nose lifted probably 3 feet when it hit.

On another note, that movie "redline" sounds interesting.

Oh, and I've read of at least 5 Enzo's that have died, and some of them are much more worse off than that one which looks very repairable anyway.

why the hell would you let someone drive your ferrari, or even if you are going to do it. At least sit in the car with them. And if your about to hit a wall wouldnt you put your foot hard on the brake?

Yep Xrated , but not the Enzo , now .

Surely it's repairable , unless it's twisted Badly somewhere , when he stopped the front right seemed ok braking , mainly L/H corner impact . I know it was a pretty hard shunt , but they can't be that fragile ? They must still have the moulds for the shell , guards & front .

Enzos don’t twist, they snap. The whole monocoque is constructed of carbon fibre. That’s one of the reasons why they can’t be registered in Australia. They don’t meet the required crash worthiness tests to pass ADRs. Funny that, they’re safe enough for every other country on the globe though.

Here’s a few more.
