Default EL brake conversion...?

I now have an EL fairmont ghia and she's a beauty!!!
tickford enhanced wheels, body kit suspension engine etc-etc.
i havent owned a car before thats such a pleasure to drive.

i only have on complaint ... the brakes..... i hate em!
they fade far too easily for my liking..ive got bendix ultimate pads, good fluid DOT 5, and they still fade when i give the car a hard time. has anyone done a conversion with a bigger rotor/calliper combo?? if so id like to know what it cost and how effective it was and what, if any problems you guys have heard of ... thanks in advance for your help

Yeah, slotted discs do help. Less heat, more grip. I'm thinking of getting some slotted DBA's myself.

even DBA slotteds wont get EA-L's stopping in any sort of a hurry at all. Look at places like Hoppers Stoppers, Cebco, PBR and Harrop(lol) for some decent 330mm+ twin/4 pistion brakes

Speak to either Sylox or TIKFD6, they have done brake upgrades on their cars and will be able to give you a bit better idea of what to expect.

$2700...pfffffft

EL Futura
I paid a little over $110 each for my DBA Slotted rotors, and fitted Bendix Performax pad with DOT5 fluid, and i have been unable to fade them.

Further more, i have since replaced the front pads with genuine items, and still i have had no problems with fade.

yea, i'd love to put some big brakes on my EL, but im not any sort of racer

DBA slotteds and EBC greenstuff pads are just puuuuurfect for hauling up my EL Fairmont. I may just know however of someone doing twin piston caliper/bigger rotor upgrades for Falcons for around a grand (front only) using mustang bits. I'll tell you more when and if it all happens (or someone else from Fordmods who has read about it can do so for me)

STock sized rotors will only handle a certain amount of punishment.
The reason Sylox and myself went for the big brakes is due to dabbling in a little track work.

Oh, my opinion, Ultimates Eat Discs.

Hmmm... I have slotted DBA rotors. They are good. FAR better than stock. However i'm not going to say they do not fade, and it still takes 2.2 seconds to slow from 200 to 100kmh. I'm sure TIKFD6's or Sylox's don't take that long...
Mine do fade considerably after a big workout, so those who have slotted DBA replacements for their standard rotors and can't get them to fade, i'm sorry you're not pushing hard enough :P

i have x drilled and slotted front and rear. i have definitely noticed a difference with the better pads as well. i have given them hell, and they dont fade that much. i have also found that i really need to throw the anchors down to get the ABS to come in. before the rotor change, it was way too easy to get ABS to come in...

if you have lots of money, go the cebco brakes... if not, wack some DBA rotors on...

The calipers on my carare the same as the ELGT, and the discs are 329mm.
but even if you use the ELGT setup you will still need to get a set of Modified Uprights, or a set of ELGT uprights.

Wayne, the ELGT or equivilent setup is basically the only setup.

Hoppers said they wouldnt do them as they had no way of X-raying the uprights after modification.

And to add to my last point, you will have to spend alot more than what i did for parts from Ford.
:P

ELGT Uprights @$800ea x2 =$1600
ELGT Twin Piston PBR calipers @$580 each =$1160

thats more than what i paid for my complete setup.

AU2's have twin piston calipers i think? Only downside is that its a major job to convert E series brakes to AU ones.

What would you have to do to put on the AU calipers and discs?
