Unhappy Ive Broken my baby !!!

Well......its a sad day, my engine was pulled out last week due to a problem with blue smoke blowing out of the right bank under de-acceloration. The engine was stripped down and this is what i found. The oil pump was stuffed also due to metal parts in the sump and it had picked alot of it up and chewed out the internals. While all that was happening, i found that it had started to blow a head gasket between 2 cylinders on the block side, the heads were done 6 months ago, but Engine World found that the deck on the block was not flat and hence the blown gasket. Also what was found that 3 valves were working there way through the retainers and on there way to dropping through. So today has not been a good day for me, and it will be a little while before the black money pit will be back on the road : The piston was a hypertec liquid forged piston, and failed the rpm tests that i gave it, so a set of flat top forgies will be the trick, and a stroker kit will definatly be on the shopping list, i have already got the chrome molly valve spring retainers, hopefully that will fix the valve problem. And i found out also when i pulled her out that the twin plate clutch is totally stuffed. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

That sucks mate, when its all back up and running with a stroker kit, it will be worth it.

oooh bugger. That sounds nasty! Also sounds like multiple problems, I wouldn't expect that from a fairly recently built engine.

mmm... stroker kit sounds nice. It'll definitely be a monster when you get it back on the road.

So the shopping trolley is coming for another cruise, lol.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday. I hope everyone else is as bad as me at bowling...

Rob.

Yes Brett......early on when i put the heads on she pinged a bit, as i bolted on 302 closed chambered heads that were ported and had 4v inlet and exaust valves put in them. I brought the timming back to 3 deg BTDC and she ran fine and only pinged when i gave her a bit at to low rpm. But when this happened i was running a %50 mix with av-gas and premium unleaded, and she wouldnt ping nomatter what you did. But at 10.5 to 1 comp ratio she had a tendancy to run on when i turned her off....lucky i had a manual, as i used 1st gear to stop her from running on, but this only happened when i was just using the premium and not the av-gas.

Yes Rob...it was a bit of a shock to me also, but when i had it rebuilt, the block deck was never checked as this engine was running great for about a year in stock form before i ripped her out and threw in the go fast bits, she was in a XE ESP that i owned. It wasnt a major head gasket blow but it was enough to recognise when the gasket was removed, as you know yourself she was still running fine at the show and shines last month, the only embarrasing part was running out of fuel while showing off doing a sound off. And as for the valve retainers ive known about that problem since i bolted the heads on, as John from Engine World told me to regulary check and adjust my valve clearences and found a few valves pulling through the valve retainers, so i got a few replacements and temparary fixed the problem, so i bought the chrome molly replcements, but a time factor and the big girl spending alot of time in the garrage and not on the road, they just never got replaced. And as for the clutch, she was %50 worn when i dropped the engine in so i sorta knew she was getting close, but instead it was sorta #%@&$% !!
Yes the shopping trolley will be brought on the next few runs unfortuneatly.......oh well, all i know that now when shes back on the road as a 383 and John from Engine World is doing a few tricks himself, shes going to be more of a screamer than before !!!

The 383 has been canned!!!!! HAHAHA John and i agree that a 393 will be better !!! So the 393 has been ordered WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE comes with a Scat forged steel crank, Scat forged Hbeam rods and SRP forged flat top pistons !! Now the 2V heads that ive spent a fortune on are being scraped also. Now im am purchasing AFD alloy cylinder heads and having them sent out to Goodman race engines to have ported and flowed. The rest of the gear that i need, i alredy have....... cant wait to get her together, John from Engine World says we shoul get around the 550 HP mark.....i just cant wait to leave marks.
