Before i start I will say i have no pics so no "this thread is usleless without pics" comments lol.
Its an XD-XF era Fairlaine/LTD with a "chop-top" in a dark silver colour I used to see this car around alot when i was younger and didnt think much of it but i saw it today again and got thinking what a lot of trouble for a very stock looking car bar the few inches off the roof. So i was wondering if anyone else has seen this car or even knows anything about it. CHEERS! P.S. If i do see it again ill tryand get a pic oh PPS it has a bloody vinyl roof also!! |

How long ago was it when you last saw it and in which area?
I am in christies now but I used to live in Moana South and very vaguely remember seeing something like a ZJ-ZK fairlane of that description but I might be mistaking it for something else. I mean, how often do you come across a chopped silver ZJ fairlane?

Yeah i used to see it around flaggy/aberfoyle park a bit, but it was on marion road i saw it the other day.
One thing i remember about it is that the front windows looked like they were from a SWB cos there was an extra say 150mm section added to the window rail. which i thought was a little odd but i guess a zj/zk chop top is a little odd in its self |

It used to park in Allman Crescent, Aberfoyle Park. Don't know if it still is - haven't been there for a few months.

Lol, well what a blast from the past. It appears i've become the latest owner of this somewhat little known ZJ fairlane. It needs a little work but it's coming along slowly

Yeah, was around in the southern suburbs, seen it many times.
Before that it was around Clovelly Park where I used to live. Known of the car for close to 20 years I reckon. Last edited by Fairlane 500; 10-04-2015 at 10:35 PM. |

no offense to the owner, but that has fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. not even a mother could love that one. sorry.
must be a story attached to it though. it is a strange setup, and certainly unique. |

prydey: No offense taken mate. It's not everyones cup of tea, but it's unique and appears to have a good story behind it that goes back a few years apparently.
Simple6: My plans for it are to tidy it back up to the sage it once used to be and then put it down the strip when drag season starts again later this year. Will be starting a build thread for it shortly.

As I wrote before, I have seen the car around for ages, you can't miss it, I remember it even when it was first done with a fresh paint job, I just never knew the story behind it. What sort of engine are you planning to build if you are going to race it? |

The good story i guess is that it's one of those odd cars that someone decided to change, but has still got a lease on life and hasn't ended up sitting in a shed somewhere collecting dust or out one of the back blocks rusting away.
I'd be interested in getting in touch with some of the previous owners and get a little history on it. The engine for the strip is going to be a standard 351 block. I'll modify the oil system as per an old perfomance book my dad has. It already has a slightly lumpy cam fitted. Will do some port and polish work on the heads and get a better performance manifold to sit under the 650 Holley that currently hides under the hood. Later down the track i hope to be able to fit a gilmer belt drive and we have a clevo twin tunnel ram that could be good fun. If anyone does know something about the car, please feel free to contact me
