A Liberal MP here in Perth had her car seized after her son was caught driving it at 110 in a 60 and he was pished.
The car is a government car and apparently family members are allowed to use them. Good to see our tax dollars being put to good use. But how come someone who isn't in government (Shadow Minster for Tourism), gets a tax payer funded car. Politicians really know how to look after each other. What sort of car you ask? whadda ya think, thats right a dunnydoor. I wonder who will pay the fee to get it out of the impound yard, tax dollars again probably as it's a government car.

That's a good laugh.
doubt the tax payers will foot that bill. Fines etc are the responsibility of the driver. |

Oh get off it, one of owe friends is a senator, he left a very promising career in the privet sector to go and do something that he always wanted to do and took close to a $200,000 pay cut to do it, now has less benefits makes less money and has to do more work.
We all sit hear a bag these guys out, but who hear would want there Job, i sure wouldn't do it. As for her son, why does it matter. I am more ****ed about the stupid rail way the Labor government is building that is a few 100,000,000 over budget, lets all get caught up on a $40,000 car yeah that's the real issue. ya never heard about the Government funded SS commodore that some WA heath department sinor boss had (Not going to say what one) had as his work car and his son wrote off did we. The kicker is he approved the SS Commodore for himself but it isn't on the list of government cars for him.

And when asked if her son would be allowed use of the car again, her response was "we will have to duscuss it". WTF??? There is nothing to discuss. the answe should be a straight no. The kid was pi55ed, doing 110 in a 60 zone on Canning Hwy. It is now simple. She loses her car. Buy your own like the rest of us.
But, pollies will look after their own and the car will be returned and she will do the good leftie thing and discuss the situation with her son and let her know how disappointed she is. I wonder if mr carpenter will like to see this car crushed nto a cube and dropped on her lawn??? Or has he realised how stupid that statement was??? |

and if it will never stop what's the point of belly aching about it all the time, accept it as chit happens and move on. I bet nobody who is given a company car and Fuel card in the privet sector wingers about it, same deal only the people lower them in the company are paying for it with there Blood and sweet and lower wagers instead of the general public.

I have no problem them using the car, nor members of the family
However, if they or their family are caught for any infringement, in this case serious, then stuff em, use their own vehicles.

Mate allot of these people leave Lucrative Jobs when they become members, and it isn't exactly a Holiday getting in to begin with. i am not saying they are all good people who do everything right, to be honest allot of em are dogs and every party is full of back stabbers and people with there own engender, but there are some who are there because they want to do the Job and try to serve as well as they can. They don't award themselves pay rises, There pay is adjusted the same as evrybody else's by a revue board or whatever you want to call it, then like always you can either take it or leave it, now if you were offered a pay rise would you turn it down, I bloody well doubt it.

with our employer. directly. our hospital staff in WA recently had to strike to get $1 per hour increase. that's right, no typo, ONE DOLLAR an hour. these people are employed by our state government. the pay rise takes their rate to $18 an hour. and our politicians lie, steal and give their cars to drunken kids and we pay for it. they also got a 3 / 4% pay rise in the last few weeks. now, if you can show me what our state government and invisible opposition did to deserve this, I will give you a cracker. if you can show me that they deserve their pay rise more than a hospital worker, policeman or nurse, I will give you two crackers. so, back on topic. do you think that it is okay for a public servant, paid for by the taxpayer can give her publicly funded car to a drunk driver who has no regard for raod rules, common sense or other road users? |

I don't see any problem with granting ministers and even shadow ministers car.
But here is my problem, I have a company car. If any of my family members were caught speeding while drunk behind the wheel of the car, I would be sacked on the spot. I'm not to sure there are too many private business' that wouldn't do the same.

Do they pay FBT on their government supplied cars?? Im not sure but Id be interested to see... If this is the case then id be cool with it, but if they get these cars and use them freely with no tax implications for themselves, or the government (the rest of us have to log books etc) then id be annoyed. If they dont pay FBT then they really shouldnt be using them for personal use should they..

I had a company car for years and NO ONE else was allowed to drive it. Not even partners. Violation of this meant dismissal.
