Default Street Machine - Turbo Taxi

I don't know if this has already been mentioned somewhere on the forum... the creator of the 13s for 1300 series (ScottysGarage) is working for Street Machine to make another budget drag car this time with an FG ex-taxi.

It should be an interesting series.

Best show series ever on YouTube. They didn't specify their budget though, so 10s is obviously achievable but it's a question of how much they will spend and what they can find cheap secondhand. Did anyone see the 142rwkw figure? Was that running on straigjt LPG, as the plumbing under the hood definitely looked like an eGas Venturi setup.

Did u see the other cars condition when he test drove it, ****en had mould in the boot, wanted to vomit all over the computer seeing that haha ****en nasty stuff. Also to make 142rkw on what soundes like a rod knock he said is pretty impressive, surprised it didn't blow up on the dyno.

The 142rwkw was unbelievable with a rod knock. Must be an optimistic dyno. I was cringing during both dyno runs and the quarter mile , anticipating the pistons making their way through the block but that motor just kept holding together, testament to the strength of the Barra.

You'd think so, but the motor probably has been opened a few times and what's not to say the auto isn't the best part of shagged. Dynos don't show slippage during gear changes, only in general drive train slippage.

he said he tried to stall it up so the ecu limited torque so they couldn't accelerate properly
not sure how true that is i haven't tried stalling my FG

anyway i bought this thing the weekend before this episode came out. paid $2500 for it and its not a taxi but it is an e-gas XT, just a 1 owner car with 220km on the clock and full service history.....i bought this boring car so i wouldn't modify it then this show came out and gee'd me all up. it had stock hubcaps when i bought it so swapped them out for these centre caps last weekend and also now has full XR leather trim

That would look even better with 18 inch steelies. There are a few floating around that fit the AU-FG.

The unboxing video they released on youtube has me wondering about the budget.
Alot of expensive new Turbosmart goodies there.
Is it going to be
- sponsor supplied?
An on going $$$ tally would be nice.
Going cheap as 2nd hand would be interesting. But could see that taking alot of time chasing stuff up etc. - Hence the new box of Turbosmart goodies.

From what ive seen if they continue with aquiring parts like that of biggest and best available then 10's should be its shake down run.

Its another bottom end now too apparently and has ran 16's from what ive seen .

Hence my comment in youtube
That's a really healthy EGAS with a decent knock in it.
F6 bottom end and rods ... it can handle it.

It would be interesting to know what budget they are working with - I also noticed they didn't mention that in the first episode but maybe they will address that in the second video.

I reckon it will be a $10K budget but that's just a guess. That would leave them plenty of money for mods after purchasing the car.

Watched the video. Unless they state a budget it's not really extraordinary

Buy flogged out taxi, spend $20k installing a f6 engine with high boost and run 10s?

Definitely need to state a total budget and a running tally of jow much each item costs etc.
They just recieved their brand new custom built turbo. How much did that cost?

I dare day reason no prices is because they're hitting up magazine advertisers pretty hard for "a good deal" or freebie and don't want everyone hitting them up for the same price.

So yep. Will be a pointless adventure that im rapidly losing interest in.

Can you run 10s on lpg? Easy been done for years. Lots of old xflow 250s done it about 10yrs ago etc so silly question.
Barra is a better engine so should be a walk in the park. Specially if no budget or freebie parts.

Try 20+ years ago. I built/owned a 10.74sec TE Cortina, X/F-250T, straight gas+GRA carb, back in 1993-1995. Registered and fully street legal. And all at probably half the budget of this taxi. Those were the days.

BTW, on another note, local Shell station says they will not be selling LPG after the 30th of June this year!

In the right aplications lpg does have its merits, considering its a by product. It works well with higher boost aplications. There was (probably still is, but I don't actively follow the scene anymore) a guy running a built destroked to 3.8L au motor with a high boost turbo on gas that ran low 9's. Possibly high 8's. That was in an early mustang. Lpg also has its advantages in serious off roading as the tank is pressurised there isn't the chance of fuel starvation on extreme angles.

By that token, I'd save that extra $2000 by buying a $500 EB or even a lighter early Dumbledore (VB to VN), install an eBay BF2 xr6t or newer motor and gearbox, boost the hell out of it and be running 8s for the same money.
