As high as people are willing to pay.
As with anything, it is a case of supply and demand. I have read articles in regards to young professionals buying collector cars as they were increasing more in value than real estate.

With XB's and XC's becoming collectors, will we see the XD's and XE's going up in price in the not to distant future as well?

Alternatively, what cars do you see becoming collectors and increasing in value in the future?

performance/luxury/sports stuff, like ESP's, V8 Ghia's and the like, i'd say yes, but the ordinary 6 cyl GL.... nop.
everyone said the XA-XC stuff wasnt collectable only a few years ago, and look what happened there. also, normal old XR-XY Falcons and Fairmonts are worth a decent quid now too.

reason is simple.
if someone wants a GTHO, for example, but cant affore one, they look for an alternative, like a GS Fairmont, XA GT, or XC Cobra, for arguements sake.
if one person does this, the prices stay down, but when more and more people do it (coz there's now more people than ever that cant afford a GTHO), the prices rise... and thats what's happened in the XA-XC market.
i dont see the XD-XE market being different in time, as those that want that GTHO and cant afford it, or an XA-XC now too, brings the XD-XE stuff into the picture.

demand will always outstrip supply in the end.

Do you think as an average price the GTHO Phase 3 will break the $500.000 mark??

I believe half a mil maybe one day. But look what happened in the 80s, the price of a HO went up into the 80-90k range and remember this was BIG dollars then. And eventually the market crashed and they were worth 25-35k again.

Why?? The recession had a lot to do with it as people had no money and to keep your house or business something had to go and often it was the HO's and GT's but the price had to come down as no one had the money and one day it will probably happen again.

The cost of HO's will go up but it will also fall dramaticaly when you cant put them on the road.

The best I heard was $400.000.00 confirmed and + unconfirmed.
Its all dependant on the new fuel/climate change rules.

Personally I would not pay anymore than 100k for one!

The last 2 that i know of went for $870,000 ( ex moffat ) & $420,000 ( 1 off black ) so its hard to say if these prices will be matched again but if your looking to buy one, im sure money isn't an issue and you'll pay what ever to own one.

Have to agree, V8 XD-XE's will go up, as will, god forbid, any V8 commodore still in decent condition, again if people can't afford a Brock, they'll look at a V8 Vb-c-h-k in decent nick as an alternative ala GT falcons.

Start buying up those nice early 80's V8 Falcons & Commodores that have been lovingly maintained by Grandpa for 25+ years!

Yellow Ocre Phase 3 went for 400k recently.

Not everyone aspires to own a Phase 3, some are more than happy with XR/XT/XW/XY/XA/XB normal GT's. The HO market is now left to the haves and rich collectors these days. XA's and XB's represent real value now, and the supply/demand thing is dragging the good ones up and up. The worst bit of sup/dem is it also drags up the not so good GT's etc to high prices, which forces people to look at lower spec models aka replicars. The XC GXL's, xc v8 coupes and the XD and XE V8 ESP's will rise too, but not as much as GT's.
